Evidence was heard from Milik Ahmed, authorised representative of the trainer, and from the rider concerned.

In his evidence C.R. King stated that his instructions were to jump off quickly, settle his mount in fourth or fifth place and do his best from there. He said that his mount missed the break completely and he found himself further behind than he had planned. He added that he felt the field went a good gallop, so he got his position down the backstraight on the rail at the rear of the field. He said that, on turning in, he had not a clear run up the rail, but he eventually got the gaps after the winner had gone clear of the field. He further stated that his mount ran on well in the final furlong to finish second. He said it was his belief that he had obtained his best possible finishing position, but  also added  that he believed his mount could have won in another 50 -75 yards.
