Irish Racing Calendar, 13th June 2013

The following trainers were fined €200 in each case for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provisions of Rule 194(v) (vi):- Lee Smyth for Reina De Luz (in season) at Naas on 15th May; A.J. McNamara for Fitzcarraldo (lame) at Cork on 24th May; Anthony Mulholland for Native Of Drard (lame) at Sligo on 22nd May; T. Stack for Lord Luca (lame) at Punchestown on 29th May; P.T. Flavin for Sean Og Katy (in season) at Tramore on 31st May and Gordon Elliott for Plan A (stone bruise) at Kilbeggan on 2nd June .

Tramore Meeting, 31st May 2013

127C Tramore Racecourse Supporters Club Maiden Hurdle & William Hayes, trainer of Go Deimhin, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 6th June that his charge was found to be in season post race.

Listowel Meeting, 3rd June 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.

Mr. R.O. Harding replaced Mr. M.P. Fogarty on Oscar Invitation, trained by Eoin Griffin (Race 8) Injured.

131A Kingdom Mares Maiden Hurdle & M.A. Enright, rider of New River, trained by D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake in running and did not travel thereafter.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined New River at the request of the Stewards and reported that the animal was found to be lame post race having pulled her right hind shoe in running.

131B(ii) Harvest Festival 15th – 21st September Handicap Hurdle (Division Two) & The Stewards requested a report from C. Byrnes, trainer of Evesham Star, placed second, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent outing at Cork where she pulled up.

The trainer reported that this mare was not suited by the faster ground at Cork last time. He said that the mare had been dropped four pounds following that run, while she was also suited by more forcing tactics today.   

Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.  

B.J. Geraghty, rider of Westerners Son, trained by Paul Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount had a poor action and was therefore pulled up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Westerners Son at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

Jarlath P. Fahey, trainer of Sonic Beat, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to be distressed post race.

A.P. Crowe, rider of Back To Drumdeel, trained by Robert Tyner, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was off the bridle most of the way and met with interference after the final hurdle in the backstraight.

131C John J. Galvin Handicap Hurdle & B.J. Geraghty, rider of Whispering Hills, trained by D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled on today’s ground.

Paul W. Flynn, trainer of Limpopo Tom, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a noise in running.

S.J. Crimin, rider of Monelissio, trained by Peter Casey, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a bad mistake down the back and lost his action.

131E John B. Keane Mares Beginners Steeplechase & Diarmuid P. Ryan, trainer of Killashee Lady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was unsuited by today’s quick ground.

P. Townend, rider of Top Madam, trained by Donal Coffey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount went wrong behind and was therefore pulled up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Top Madam, trained by Donal Coffey, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be tied up behind post race.

131F Listowel Celtic AFC 50th Anniversary Hunters Steeplechase & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Family Oficial, trained by Mrs Mary Twohig, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have a burst blood vessel post race.

131G Dr. Louis O’Carroll I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr L. P. Flynn, rider of the winner King Shabra, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Flynn was in breach of Regulation 10 3. (f), in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and Regulation 10 4, in that he had failed to give his mount time to respond.

Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for four race days (20th 21st, 23rd and 24th June). 

Mrs Valerie Cooper, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry.

The Stewards received a report from Ms. Nicola O’Connor, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, regarding an incident in the stable yard where she observed a syringe being used by the groom in charge to administer liquid into the mouth of De Glebe Star, trained by Miss Frances Slevin, while the muzzle was still attached.

Evidence was heard from Ms. Nicola O’Connor MRCVS, Miss Frances Slevin, trainer, and from Miss Judith Long, groom in charge. Mr. Declan Buckley, Turf Club Security Officer, also attended this enquiry.

Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that there was a breach of instruction dated 6/12/12 whereby syringes are forbidden in the stable yard. They allowed De Glebe Star to run, ordered that the animal be tested immediately post race, ordered that the Turf Club Veterinary Officer retain the syringe for the purpose of analysis and ordered that the kit bag be checked. They felt that they were not in the position to reach a full conclusion to this enquiry and referred the matter to the Turf Club for further investigation pending the outcome of the analysis.    

Mr P.W. Mullins, rider of Rough Justice, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount raced keenly in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Ballet Dante, trained by M. Keane, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have mucus in her trachea following and endoscopic examination post race.

Naas Meeting, 3rd June 2013

The Stewards fined the following trainer in respect of his non-runner:- Damian Joseph English, trainer of Cash Or Casualty (Withdrawn by Order of the Stewards – (passport not logged) €130.

132A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Stewards fined D. K. Weld, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Lapis Blue in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

132C www.thetote.com BBQ Evenings Handicap & P.J. Smullen, rider of Flic Flac, trained by D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount felt lame in the closing stages of this race and was therefore pulled up.

132F Follow Us On Facebook Handicap & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving the winner Connacht Council, ridden by P.J. Smullen, Zalty (FR), ridden by F. Lynch, placed second, Lightning Hopkins, ridden by C.T. Keane placed third, and Rain Gold (USA), ridden by J P. O’Brien, unplaced, after it appeared that the latter ran short of room and had to check.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.  

132G Tipper Road Fillies Handicap & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving the winner Love And Cherish, ridden by W.M. Lordan, Drifting Mist (GB), ridden by S. Foley, placed second, Something Graceful (GB), ridden by K.J. Manning, placed third, and Bobskier, ridden by C.P. Hoban unplaced.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.  

Mr N.B. Wachman, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr Peter N. Reynolds acted as Chairman.

Fairyhouse Meeting, 5th June 2013

133A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & W.J. Lee, rider of Remember You, trained by David Wachman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount missed the break and ran green before staying on well in the straight.

W.M. Lordan, rider of Unravelled, trained by David Wachman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well and rolled around a bit on the ground in the straight.

133B Summer Family Day On 14th July Flat Race & PThe Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final furlong of this race involving the winner Harry Trotter, ridden by F. Lynch, In Salutem (GB), ridden by S. Foley, placed second, Talitha Kum, ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed third, and Yulong Baoju, ridden by F.M. Berry, placed fourth.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards were also of the opinion that any interference was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

133D Dunboyne Handicap & J.A. Heffernan, rider of Legal Lyric, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to get a clear run in the straight in this race.

Liam P. Cusack, trainer of Jennys Lane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to be lame post race.

133E Fairyhouse Summer Series Handicap & F. Lynch, rider of Carenza, trained by David Marnane, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was denied a clear run twice in this race.

133F Follow Us On Facebook Fillies Maiden & S. Foley, rider of Hurry Along, trained by Mrs Prunella Dobbs, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stumbled badly after three furlongs in this race.

133G(i) Ratoath Handicap (Division One) & D.P. McDonogh, rider of Back In Black, trained by Charles O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stumbled shortly after the start of this race.

R.P. Whelan, rider of Hootie, trained by S. Donohoe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stumbled shortly after the start of this race.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Sretaw, trained by Gavin Cromwell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stumbled shortly after the start of this race.

Tipperary Meeting, 6th June 2013

134B Follow Tipperary On Facebook Handicap & R.P. Cleary, rider of All Ablaze, trained by Damian Joseph English, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not let himself down on today’s ground.

134C Follow@tipperaryraces on Twitter Median Auction Maiden & The Stewards interviewed E.J. McNamara, rider of the winner Weather Watch, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that E.J. McNamara was in breach of R10 (3) (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.

Having taken his very good previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him.

134D Tipperary Youth Raceday Handicap & F.M. Berry, rider of Lethal Weapon, trained by C. Roche, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never really travelled and did not let himself down on today’s ground before being eased in the closing stages.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Lethal Weapon at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

134E tipperaryraces.ie Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards gave permission for Nosarino, trained by Kieran P. Cotter, to race without the declared tongue tie in this race.

134F Pride Of Tipperary Gathering 27th June Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed A.J. Martin, trainer, concerning his own behaviour at the start of this race where he appeared to be in possession of a hunting crop and waved it to encourage his charge High Importance (USA)  to race when the flyaway tape was released.

A.J. Martin admitted the offence but pleaded that he was unaware of R13 whereby he was not allowed to use any item to prompt an unwilling horse to start. He added that he believed he was copying a similar procedure which is allowed in the U.K.

Having considered the evidence, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned Mr Martin for his breach of R13.  

134G Fundraising Events At Tipperary (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards fined T. Stack €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Lord Luca in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

Miss J.M. Mangan, rider of Lord Luca, trained by T. Stack, reported to the Clerk of Scales that her mount weakened quickly in the back straight.

Downpatrick Meeting, 7th June 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.

A. Ring replaced B.F. Cawley on Port Of The Oak, trained by Philip M. Byrne (Race 1) Unwell.

135A Bring On The Weekend Handicap Hurdle & B.R. Dalton, rider of Obispo, trained by C.A. McBratney, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount was dropped out in an attempt to get him to settle but that he raced keenly early on. He said that the horse would not let himself down on the ground on the downhill run to the home straight, but that he stayed on late past beaten horses on the uphill finish.

135C Have You Heard ‘The Bizz’ Maiden Hurdle & C.D. Maxwell, rider of Spot Again, trained by Patrick Rooney, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung left on the final circuit of this race.

D.J. Casey, rider of Twelve Gold Bars, trained by J.A. Nash, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount felt lame behind on pulling up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Twelve Gold Bars at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame on his left hind post race.

135F Catch Me If You Can Hunters Steeplechase & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Bendala Blue (GB), trained by Donal Hassett, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

Leopardstown Meeting, 7th June 2013

136A Irish National Stud Famous Name European Breeders Fund Maiden & The Stewards enquired into an incident shortly after leaving the stalls involving the winner War Command (USA), ridden by J.P. O’Brien, Intensified, ridden by K.J. Manning, placed second, Whitey O’Gwaun, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed third, Black Worcester, ridden by S. Foley, Master Of Time, ridden by C. O’Donoghue, Taanif (GB), ridden by C.D. Hayes, and Main Straits (GB), ridden by W.M. Lordan, all unplaced, after it appeared that the latter ran short of room and had to check.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

The Stewards fined David Wachman, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Keyword (GB)  in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

136D RSM Farrell Grant Sparks Handicap & P.J. Smullen, rider of Notable Graduate, trained by D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount met with interference and was eased down in the closing stages of this race.

136B King George V Cup Flat Race & T.P. O’Shea, rider of Hold The Line, trained by P. Shanahan, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount ran well until the turn for home but failed to pick up thereafter.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Hold The Line at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.

136F Weir And Sons Handicap & C.D. Hayes, rider of Lily’s Star, trained by H. Rogers, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount met with interference and was eased thereafter.

Navan Meeting, 8th June 2013

137B Adelaide Insurance Services The Motor Cycle Insurance Specialists Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages of this race involving Dorothy Parker, ridden by D.E. Hogan, placed second, and Municipal, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, placed third, after it appeared that Municipal suffered interference.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, in the presence of Des Cummins, authorised representative of Kevin Prendergast, master of D.E. Hogan.

Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.E. Hogan was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly.

Having taken his good record in this regard into account and his inexperience, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him.

P.J. Smullen, rider of Catwilldo, trained by Garvan Donnelly, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount did not have a clear run in the closing stages of this race.

137C Boylesports Bet On Your Mobile Apprentice Handicap & S.B. Kelly, rider of Judies Child, trained by W. McCreery, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount ran flat in this race.

137D Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Race & The Stewards interviewed D.P. McDonogh, rider of the winner Stepwise, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.P. McDonogh was in breach of Regulation 10 4 in that he had failed to give his mount time to respond.

Having taken his good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him accordingly.

137E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages of this race involving the winner Rocktique (USA), ridden by N.G. McCullagh, Belle De Crecy, ridden by F. Lynch, placed third, and Hurrem Sultan, ridden by W.J. Lee, unplaced, after it appeared that interference took place.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference which had taken place was caused accidentally and they therefore took no further action.  

The Stewards fined T. Stack, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Light Storm Cass  in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

137G Paddy  Power In Support Of The Irish Dogs For The Disabled Handicap & C.D. Hayes, rider of Relay (GB), trained by J.T. Gorman, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount ran free throughout and never settled in this race.

Curragh Meeting, 9th June 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.

E.J. McNamara replaced G.F. Carroll on Ginger Genie, trained by E. McNamara (Race 7) Original mount a non-runner.

138A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden & P.J. Smullen, rider of Bush Pilot, trained by D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green, was denied a run up the rail before being switched out wide and stayed on late.

138C TRM Excellence In Equine Nutrition Handicap & E.J. McNamara, rider of Toccata Blue, trained by G.M. Lyons, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount began fly-leaping shortly after leaving the stalls for approximately 100 yards and was eased thereafter.

F. Lynch, rider of Sword Of Light, trained by David Marnane, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his saddle slipped shortly after the stalls opened.

The Stewards informed Joseph G. Murphy, trainer of Dixiedoodledandy that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

D.M. Grant, rider of Measured Approval, trained by Patrick J. Flynn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

138G TRM Invest In Calphormin Handicap & D.A. McCormack, rider of Cest Notre Gris, trained by J.T. Gorman, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled on the quick ground and changed his legs repeatedly.
