Having considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned Mr. Downey concerning his responsibility to ensure that his charges arrive at the start in good time and special arrangements to leave the parade ring early can be facilitated provided prior permission is sought.

R.P. Cleary, rider of Nine Bean Rows, trained by Mr. Niall Moran, reported to a Turf Club Official, that his mount did not act on today’s ground.

270D Bennettsbridge Maiden & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Nurse Ryan, ridden by S.J. Hassett, and trained by Mr. Martin Hassett.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In  his evidence Mr. Martin Hassett stated that as the rider was very familiar with the mare and his instructions were confined to getting her home as she struggles in the ground. In his opinion she has a greater preference for good underfoot conditions. He reminded the Stewards that this mare was a dual purpose performer and her last race over hurdles, in which she had a heavy fall, resulting in her having a nasal bleed. He added that he may direct her in future towards running at Dundalk to secure her preferred ground conditions.
In his evidence S.J. Hassett confirmed the riding instructions and the fact that he knew the mare very well. He stated that from flagfall he was a little further back in the field than he would have wished but the mare travelled well until the entrance into the straight from which point he began to squeeze her but she failed to quicken. He added that in the latter stages she met with some interference and did not handle the ground conditions. He accepted that he had failed to report this matter post race. He further stated that he refrained from using his whip in the latter stages probably because, he knew her too well, and felt that he would not get a response but she surprised him by running on well. In hindsight he thought that a better ride might have resulted in victory and maybe if he had used his whip in the closing stages may have gained second place but overall he was disappointed with his riding.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Nurse Ryan was found to be coughing post race.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered and did not impose any sanction in view of the veterinary evidence. However, they found that S.J. Hassett was in breach of Rule 213 in that he had failed to report the fact that his mount failed to handle the ground in the latter stages and therefore fined him €250.
Mr. Anthony Byrne, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Stephen Ryan, trainer of the winner Sea Stallion, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
Mr. Ryan reported that his only explanation he could offer was that he had moved to a new training establishment in recent weeks and this could have had a desired effect, as he has not trained a winner for some considerable time.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

Gowran Park Meeting, 6th October 2012

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of her non-runner: Mrs Prunella Dubbs for Our Gar (ground conditions).

271B Golf Membership At Gowran Park 2013 Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Blossom Gate, ridden by Mr. R.A. Latta, and trained by Mr. John E. Kiely.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence Mr. Kiely stated that he instructed the rider to jump off in mid division and ride her to get the trip, this being her first attempt at two miles four furlongs. He insisted that she was not to get a very hard race if she failed to travel well as she had missed fast work recently as a result of a drop in her foot. He added that in running she missed the break, was further back than required and then made a mistake at the first hurdle in the back straight which hindered her chance of making up ground and only after getting her second wind did she stay on well when her chance was gone. He expressed his satisfaction with the ride considering all circumstances but felt that the rider could have shown some vigour without being hard on his mount.
In his evidence Mr. Latta confirmed the riding instructions and stated that he missed the break at the start and was too far behind from flagfall. He added that despite the appearance of his riding, he was off the bridle following a mistake at the first hurdle in the backstraight, he niggled and squeezed but declined from getting forceful as he felt that he was never going to get into a challenging position, and in his opinion, with all matters considered he obtained his best possible placing.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Blossom Gate was found to be lame post race and that samples were taken for analysis.
Having viewed a recording of the race, considered the evidence together with the Veterinary evidence, the Stewards took no further action.

Manning, Jan Van Eyck (USA), ridden by S. Foley, and Authorative, ridden by G.F. Carroll, both unplaced, after it appeared the latter received a check when racing on the rails.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by K.J. Manning riding carelessly and in view of his very good recent record, they therefore severely caution him.

272D Friends Of Tipperary Hurdle & D.N. Russell, rider of Rebel Fitz (FR), trained by Mr. Michael Winters, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Rebel Fitz (FR) was found to be post race normal.
