Irish Racing Calendar, 4th October 2012

The following trainers were fined €200 in each case for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provisions of Rule 194 (v) (vi):- Mr. M.D. O’Callaghan for Dark Pulse (USA) (lame) at Galway on 10th September, J.G. Coogan for Silver Shuffle (lame) at Listowel on 16th September and Mr. John Anthony Staunton for Ohshikuru (lame) at Listowel on 18th September.

Listowel Meeting, 22nd September 2012

258H Listowel Races Supporters Club Slan Abhaile (Q.R) Race & Mr. V. Clifford, trainer of Milicious Intent, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Wednesday 26th September that his charge never travelled and did not handle the ground.

Ballinrobe Meeting, 24th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: Mr. T.M. O’Brien rode Valours Minion (reserve), trained by Mr. V.T. O’Brien (second race).

260B Tote Jackpot Races 3 To 6 Handicap Hurdle & P. Carberry, rider of Brabazon, trained by Mr. Emmet Michael Butterly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

260C Irish Tote Betting Now Available In Paddy Power Shops Maiden Hurdle & R.J. Jones, rider of Sir Harry Cash (GB), trained by Mr. E. McNamara, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran a little keen early on and weakened quickly with half a circuit to race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Sir Harry Cash (GB) was found to be post race normal.

260F Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Steeplechase & D.E. Splaine, rider of Weslife, trained by Mr. I. Madden, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran too free early on in this race.

Fairyhouse Meeting, 24th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: M.M. Monaghan rode Fibril (reserve), trained by Mr. Gerard O’Leary (sixth race).

261D Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes & P.J. Smullen, rider of Thunder Mountain, trained by Mr. D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ducked from water lying on the track after one and half furlongs.

261E Tattersalls Ireland November Yearling Sale Handicap & P.J. Smullen, rider of Encrypted Message, trained by Mr. D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle the underfoot conditions. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Encrypted Message was found to be post race normal.

261F Fairyhouse Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards informed Mr. A.L.T. Moore, trainer of Positive Vibes (GB), that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

Downpatrick Meeting, 26th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: M.J. Bolger replaced A.P. Thornton (injured) on Rathmoyle House, trained by Mr. Liam J. Clancy (sixth race).

262B Local Business Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Desmond McDonogh, trainer of the winner World Citizen, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Roscommon, where she finished last of fourteen finishers and was beaten 83 lengths by the winner Cherryantor.
Mr. McDonogh reported that his filly was returning to racing at Roscommon following a break of five months and in his opinion she ran well to about four furlongs out where she stopped quickly in the testing conditions of the two mile four furlong contest. He said that he felt today’s success could be contributed to a combination of better ground, a shorter trip and normal improvement from the Roscommon race.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

262D www.downpatrickracecourse.co.uk Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards granted permission for fences three and five to be omitted from this race and from the remaining Steeplechases at today’s meeting due to ground conditions.

262F Book Your Abba Christmas Party Handicap Steeplechase & Mr. C.M. Murphy, rider of Let The Show Begin, trained by Mrs D.A. Love, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a very bad mistake in this race, while he also felt that the horse was lame post race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer confirmed to the Stewards that Let The Show Begin was found to be lame on his off fore post race.

The Stewards enquired into an incident after the final hurdle on the first circuit involving Sun Fisher, ridden by P.F. Mangan, placed fifth, and Indubitably (GB), ridden by E.J. O’Connell, unplaced, after it appeared that the former ran short of room and lost his position.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that E.J. O’Connell had caused the incident by riding carelessly. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (11th and 12th October).
The Stewards also found P.F. Mangan’s evidence to be misleading and they consequently severely cautioned him concerning the accuracy of his evidence.

Dundalk Meeting, 27th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: C.T. Keane replaced A.P. Thornton (Stewards permission) on Malicious Intent, trained by Mr. V. Clifford (second race).

356A Dundalk Stadium Lights Up Friday 28th September & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving the winner Grey Danube, ridden by L.F. Roche, Big Bad Lily, ridden by E.J. McNamara, placed fourth, and Liberty Green, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, unplaced, after it appeared that interference had taken place. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that both L.F. Roche and E.J. McNamara were in breach of Rule 214 in that they had ridden carelessly.
Having taken their respective records in this regard into account, they therefore suspended L.F. Roche for two race days and severely cautioned E. J. McNamara.

K.J. Manning, rider of Rigid Rock, trained by Mr. J.T. Gorman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Rigid Rock had sore heels but was otherwise found to be post race normal.

356B Floodlit Friday Nights At Dundalk Maiden & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the final furlong involving the winner Via Ballycroy, ridden by S. Foley, and  Storm Lightning (GB), ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed fourth, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Gush (USA), ridden by K.J. Manning, placed fifth, Doctor Dalek, ridden by F. Lynch, Hexagonal, ridden by C.D. Hayes, and Honky Tonk Queen (USA), ridden by W.J. Lee, all unplaced, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.
Mr. N.B. Wachman, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr. J. Reardon acted as Chairman.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Hexagonal, trained by Mr. Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room in the straight.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Malicious Intent, trained by Mr. V. Clifford, was found to be coughing post race.

356C Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Stewards informed Mr. A.P. O’Brien, trainer of Just Pretending (USA), that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

C. O’Donoghue, rider of Mornin’ Gorgeous (GB), trained by Mr. A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount tried to be prominent but could not go the early pace. The filly never travelled thereafter but ran on past tired horses late.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Monaco Mist, trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not act on today’s ground.

356E(ii) Horse & Greyhound Racing Friday 28th September Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Xsquared, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed second, and Jeangeorges, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, unplaced, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that W.J. Lee was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. They therefore suspended him for two race days.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Spring Up, trained by Mr. Takashi Kodama, was found to be lame in front post race.

J.P. O’Brien, rider of Jeangeorges, trained by Mr. Patrick J. Flynn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount suffered interference in the straight.

356F Christmas Party Packages At Dundalk Stadium Fillies Maiden & J.P. O’Brien, rider of Along, trained by Mr. J.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost her action. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Along sustained an injury to her right fore lateral distal cannon and fetlock joint post race.

356G Dundalk Stadium – Light Up Your Night Maiden & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Empress Of Tara, ridden by K.J. Manning, placed second, Zabana, ridden by S. Foley, placed third, and Place Vendome, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, placed fourth, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.

The Stewards interviewed Megan Carberry, rider of Paddy Stanley, unplaced, concerning her use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that Megan Carberry was in breach of Regulation 10 3.(b) in that she had used her whip after her chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone.
The Stewards therefore severely cautioned her as to her future responsibilities in this regard.

S.J. Hassett, rider of Nurse Ryan, trained by Mr. Martin Hassett, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount missed the break, suffered interference early on in the home straight and ran short of room late on.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Knight Of Bangkok (GB), trained by Mr. A. Oliver, was found to be lame behind post race.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Civil War, trained by Mr. Charles O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to be lame post race.

Dundalk Meeting, 28th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: K.J. Manning rode Liberty To Rock (reserve), trained by Mr. J.T. Gorman (fifth race) and L.F. Roche rode Crusoe’s Return (GB) (reserve), trained by Mr. Gerard O’Leary (seventh race).

263A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Premier Nursery Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong involving Lightnin Hopkins, ridden by G.F. Carroll, and Quinine, ridden by C.P. Hoban, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.

263B Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden & The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong involving, All In Green, ridden  by M.J. Hussey, placed fourth, Downfall Of Paris (GB), ridden by W.M. Lordan, and Drifting Mist (GB), ridden by S. Foley, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.

263C Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden & D.P. McDonogh, rider of Caged Lightning, trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount suffered accidental interference and had to check in the back straight.

263D(i) Christmas Party Nights At Dundalk Stadium Handicap (Division One) & F. Lynch, rider of Majestic Pearl, trained by Mr. Alan Daly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount moved poorly in the straight.

The Stewards fined Mr. Peter McCreery, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Guess Who in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

263D(ii) Christmas Party Nights At Dundalk Stadium Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. M. Halford, trainer of the winner Red Laser, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s last run at Dundalk on the 2nd September.
Mr. Halford reported that his charge was an inconsistent type who disappointed the last day, having raced prominently before dropping away in the latter stages. The trainer added that he returned to form today having appeared to get things his own way.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving, Sweet Annathea, ridden by F. Lynch, placed fourth, Chillie Billie (GB), ridden by B.A. Curtis, and Anna Montana, ridden by P.J. Smullen, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Orafinitis, trained by Mr. Desmond McDonogh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount reared up leaving the stalls.

263E Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Handicap & C. O’Donoghue, rider of Super Say, trained by Mr. A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to get a clear run in the straight.

Navan Meeting, 29th September 2012

294A Navan Maiden Hurdle & D.J. Casey, rider of Sands Cove, trained by Mr. C.F. Swan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount weakened quickly after the fourth last hurdle. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Sands Cove was found to be post race normal.

A.P. Heskin, rider of Gallant Oscar, trained by Mr. Denis P. Quinn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped big and to the right over the first number of hurdles, took a blow after three out but stayed on past beaten horses in the home straight.

294B Racing Again Wednesday 10th October Mares Maiden Hurdle & T.P. Treacy, rider of Alderimli, trained by Mr. P.J. Rothwell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped poorly and may prefer better ground.

294C Albany Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Make A Track, trained by Mr. C.F. Swan, was found to be post race normal.

294E Le Grande Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Colin Bowe, trainer of the winner Our Victoria, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous run at Listowel on 19th of September where she finished 10th of 11 finishers and was beaten 39 lengths.
Mr. Bowe reported that the animal only ran at Listowel because it was the Kerry National. He said she was beaten after two fences but just kept plugging on in extreme conditions, and the rider that day did not give her a hard race once he accepted she could not get competitive. He stated that the race conditions suited her today, and that he availed of a 7lb claiming rider, which in his opinion any apparent improvement was as a result of a combination of these factors.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

294G Garlow Cross (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards received a report from B.F. Cawley, rider of Landriani, stating that his mount sustained an injury independently in running and therefore slipped up.

Mr. Desmond McDonogh, trainer of Pipe Band, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 1st October that his charge was found to have inhaled and swallowed some kick back following an endoscopic examination post race.

Mr. J. O’Sullivan, rider of Send For Mary, trained by Mr. Michael Mulvany, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly throughout this race.

Clonmel Meeting, 30th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: M.A. Enright replaced H.D. Dunne (unwell) on Kai Li (FR), trained by Mr. Laurence James Butler (third race); T.J. Doyle replaced I.J. Power (injured) on Misty Weather, trained by Mr. Kieran Purcell (fifth race); D.J. Casey rode Super Oscar (reserve), trained by Mr. C.F. Swan (fifth race) and P. Carberry replaced D.J. Condon (intended mount a non-runner) on Griesenau, trained by Mr. Noel Meade (seventh race).

The Stewards fined the following trainer €130 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Thomas P. Cummins for Brown Eyed Joe (Withdrawn by Order of the Stewards – passport irregularity).

265B Laganore Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Ben Meade, Authorised Representative of Mr. Noel Meade, trainer of the winner Cloudgazer, regarding the apparent improvement in form of their charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Roscommon on the 20th August where he finishing sixth of eight finishers behind the winner Easy Reach and was beaten 49 lengths.
Mr. Ben Meade reported that the animal disappointed at Roscommon when ridden by D.J. Condon and it was considered that the gelding would benefit from a short break to allow him to freshen up. Today he reappeared and ran over a shorter trip and on a faster surface which in his opinion had the desired effect.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

The Stewards enquired into an incident on the downhill run during the final circuit involving Templeton, ridden by Mr. P. Power, placed fifth, and Monahans Girl, ridden by P.T. Enright, unplaced, after it appeared that the latter had to check in running.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by Mr. Power riding carelessly.
Having taken his excellent previous record in this regard into account, they therefore cautioned him.  

265D(i) Tipp FM Family Raceday Handicap Hurdle (Division One) &
The Stewards requested a report from Mr. D.E. Fitzgerald, trainer of Playtime Ben, placed second, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Gowran Park on the 23rd September where he was beaten 40 lengths when finishing 17th behind the winner Norther Bay(FR).
Mr. Fitzgerald reported that his charge was keen in running at Gowran Park after the runners had been called back following a false start and this combined with the minimum trip of two miles led to the poor run, whereas today the extended trip of three miles combined with the fact that he settled better contributed to the improved run.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

The Stewards interviewed R.P. Treacy, rider of Flamenco Prince(GB), unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the straight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who admitted using his whip while out of contention.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that R.P. Treacy was in breach of R10(3)(b) in that he continuously hit his mount after his chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone.
Having taken his recent record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for ten race days (14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, 28th and 29th October).  

D.J. Casey, rider of Zaralabad, trained by Mr. C.F. Swan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount pulled up very lame. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Zaralabad was found to be lame post race.

Mr. Paul Stafford, trainer of Bacher Boy, reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that his charge scoped normal following an endoscopic examination post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

265D(ii) Tipp FM Family Raceday Handicap Hurdle (Division Two) & R.C. Colgan, rider of Larkin, trained by Mr. Patrick Downey, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount finished lame.

P. Townend, rider of Kilnafrehanstar, trained by Mr. John E. Kiely, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped very high at the first hurdle and was unable to go the pace. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Kilnafrehanstar was found to be post race normal. 

265F Mary Whelan’s 60th Birthday Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Michael John O’Connor, trainer of the winner Island Peak, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Galway on the 11th September where he was beaten 93 lengths when finishing 8th of 13 finishers behind the winner Ballygill Gale.
Mr. O’Connor reported that his charge did not perform on the testing ground conditions at Galway and returned today to fast conditions on which he had shown his best previous form. He felt that this was the sole contributing factor for the improved run.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Bishop’s Lane, trained by Mr. T.M. Walsh, was found to be post race normal.

T.J. Doyle, rider of Ainm Spartacus, trained by Mr. Kieran Purcell, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount weakened quickly and was therefore pulled up.

265G Killahora (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards received a report from Mr. J.J. Burke, rider of Flying Acrobat, that his mount ducked for the horsegate on the bend past the stands and unseated him.  

Curragh Meeting, 30th September 2012

266A Kevin Cullen Lifetime Achievement In Racing European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving the winner Salhooda, ridden by P.J. Smullen, and Hanky Panky, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.

266B Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Blenheim Stakes & W.M. Lordan, rider of Awakened Spirit, trained by Mr. David Wachman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount proved difficult getting to post, travelled well but found nothing off the bridle, may have been feeling the effects of his previous two hard races.

Mr. P.D. Deegan, trainer of Talitha Kum, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge showed signs of being in season post race.

266G Irish Field Nursery Handicap & The Stewards interviewed R.P. Whelan, rider of the winner Fromajacktoaking, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R.P. Whelan was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for two race days (14th and 15th October).

266H Moyglare Stud Lifetime Achievement In Racing Trophy & LF. Roche, rider of Whatever Jacksays, trained by Mr. Oliver McKiernan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was slowly away and flat out early, could not go with the field and was eased. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Whatever Jacksays, trained by Mr. Oliver McKiernan, was found to be clinically normal post race.
