The Stewards requested a report from Joseph G. Murphy, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Iva Batt, placed first, as compared with its recent form at Naas and Dundalk. The trainer reported that Iva Batt was having her third race under his care today. He described her as being a little ungenuine and takes very little training. He explained that in her last run here at Naas she downed tools when checked by her rider when crossed. Today she was fitted with cheek pieces for the first time, got her own way when racing on the wide outside, was let do her own thing and appreciated the ease in the ground conditions. In relation to the change in the morning prices, he stated that he had no knowledge concerning same. The Acting Stewards investigated the betting pattern with the BHA and were satisfied there were no abnormalities or cause for concern in this regard. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

Heffernan, placed second, Willesee (GB), ridden by S. Foley, placed third, and Vina Sena, ridden by W.M. Lordan, placed fifth, where it appeared that Shark Bay continuously drifted towards the inner rails with Willesee (GB) and Vina Sena in pursuit and following the same path. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, W.M. Lordan stated that his own mount was staying on and was not involved in any interference that may have caused him to stop riding. S. Foley stated that he was behind Shark Bay when his own mount picked up on meeting the rising ground and despite Shark Bay drifting left, he never had to stop riding. J.A. Heffernan stated that his mount was lairy and was running away from the stand side but in running he felt that he was clear of any challengers. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action other than to advise J.A. Heffernan to ride with more awareness. .
J.A. Heffernan, rider of Shark Bay trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was pulling up in running looking for a way out.
