326B Staffordstown Stud Stakes

S. Foley, rider of Fiona MacCoul, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was a little keen early on.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Celtic Motif, ridden by D. McMonagle, placed third and Giselle, ridden by R.L. Moore, placed fourth, where it appeared that interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D. McMonagle stated that his mount was intimidated by the horse on his inner and went marginally left. R. L. Moore stated that there was slight contact. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that Celtic Motif had caused interference to Giselle and as a result of this interference had improved it’s finishing position. As a consequence, the Raceday Stewards reversed the placings of the third and fourth placed horses and amended the result to read as follows:
Amended Result:
First: Whirl
Second: And So To Bed
Third: Giselle
Fourth: Celtic Motif
Fifth: Island hoping
Sixth: Mint Candy
Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards accepted D. McMonagles explanation that his mount was a difficult ride and that he had taken all reasonable steps to prevent the interference from occurring and therefore took no further action.
