Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards gave S. O'Callaghan the benefit of the doubt on this occasion and took no further action as he was deemed to have ridden within the whip guidelines for frequency.

123E Down Royal Breeders M'dn Hunters S'chaseThe Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident about four furlongs from the finish involving Jet Fighter, ridden by Mr S. Cavanagh, Big Girl Betty, ridden by Mr J.C. Barry, Carrig Wells, ridden by Mr D.M. Fitzgerald and Mandilou, ridden by Mr Pat Taaffe where it appeared that Mandilou unseated her rider. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence Mr Pat Taaffe stated that he was one length ahead of Jet Fighter on his inner when Carrig Wells came through a gap when inside Jet Fighter and this pushed his own mount onto the heels of Big Girl Betty which he clipped causing him to be unseated. Mr S. Cavanagh stated that his mount was rallying having come off the bridle when Carrig Wells went through on his inner but her rider, Mr D.M. Fitzgerald lost an iron at this point and pushed his own mount out onto Mandilou who in turn clipped a heel and unseated rider. Mr J.C. Barry stated that he was just ahead of the incident and was not aware that his mounts heel was clipped. Mr D.M. Fitzgerald stated that his mount was racing on the inner when she stumbled causing him to lose an iron and she veered left towards Jet Fighter. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that Carrig Wells had slightly altered course outwards towards Jet Fighter when her rider lost an iron and consequently they took no further action.
Mr Pat Taaffe, rider of Mandilou, trained by John G. Carr, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries at the first instance that his mount was pushed out and clipped the heel of Big Girl Betty causing him to become unseated.
The Raceday Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr P.L. Malone that Mr D.M. Fitzgerald, rider of Carrig Wells, had weighed in at 1.4lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who admitted that he weighed in at 1.4lbs overweight and added that he felt weak and had driven a long journey necessitating him to rehydrate after weighing out. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that Mr D.M. Fitzgerald was in breach of Rule 231 (iii) by weighing in at more than 1lb overweight. Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Raceday Stewards cautioned him on this occasion.
