Drogheda Memorial Golf Classic The inaugural Golf Classic in aid of the Drogheda Memorial Fund, racing ‘s oldest charity, was held at Killeen Castle Golf Club, Dunsany, Co. Meath on Monday 27th June 2011.
The Fund was established in 1852 by the late Earl of Drogheda to assist those who now find themselves in difficult circumstances and in need of our help.
I am delighted to report that 19 Teams from various sections of the Racing Industry participated in the event with the Jockeys Association emerging victorious in 1st place. Captained by Ken Whelan and together with Alain Cawley, Matthew O’Connor and Shane Donohoe they had a winning score of 96. Joe Keeling Team (Captain of Killeen Castle Golf Club) filled the runner up spot followed closely by the Qualified Riders and the Trainers Association in 3rd and 4th places respectively
.
The Committee and Management of the Fund would like to thank all our Sponsors and to congratulate all those who participated in the event. Special thanks to Michael Grassick, Jimmy Lenehan, Jim Gorman and Jim Kavanagh for all their assistance for ensuring the day went without a hitch.
With the Drogheda Memorial Fund Cup (generously donated by Pat Smullen) firmly in place, further Golf Classics will now feature as part of our fundraising in the years ahead.
Thank you ALL for your generous support
Seamus Gibson
Secretary of the Drogheda Memorial Fund.
