Turf Club Calendar Notices - Week 8

Irish Racing Calendar, 21st February 2013

The following trainers were fined €200 in each case for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provision of Rule 194 (v) (vi):- Sarah Dawson for Alnahar (lame) at Dundalk on 8th February 2013 and J.A. Nash for Trans City (colic) at Dundalk on 8th February 2013.

Thurles Meeting, 13th February 2013

351A Holy Cross Mares Maiden Hurdle & A.J. McNamara, trainer of Jacks Sky, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 14th February that his charge was found to be lame post race.

351D Cashel Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed M.P. Butler, rider of Davy From Milan, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the straight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that M.P. Butler was in breach of R10(3)(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and also R10(4) in that he had failed to give his mount time to respond.
 Having taken his previous record into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for six race days (27th, 28th February, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th March).

351E Killinan Handicap Hurdle & D.N. Russell, rider of Robbie McMahon trained by P.J. Hassett, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Robbie McMahon at the request of the Stewards and reported that the animal gave a few coughs post race. Samples were taken for analysis.

  A representative of P.J. Hassett subsequently reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that Robbie McMahon was found to have mucus in his trachea following an endoscopic examination post race.

351F Littleton Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into an incident at the winning post involving the winner Missie Ella, ridden by D.G. Hogan, and War Correspondent, ridden by D.N. Russell, placed second. 
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by D.G. Hogan riding carelessly.
 Having taken his previous very good record into account, the Stewards therefore   cautioned him to ride with more care in the future. 

S. Buggy, trainer of Luck Pennie, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge did not handle today’s ground.

351G Munster I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr P.T. Foley, rider of The Pounds, concerning his use of the whip in this race. 
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Foley was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
 Having taken his excellent record into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

Thurles Meeting, 14th February 2013

The Stewards granted permission for the fourth last fence to be omitted from all Steeplechases at today’s meeting in the interest of safety due to ground conditions.

352A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Andrew J. McNamara, rider, in relation to his riding of Indelible Run in this race.
The rider reported that this mare can get keen in her races and his instructions were to wait with her in rear.  He asked her for an effort down the back straight and felt she had no more to give. She tired and was untidy over the fourth and fifth last fences. He had considered pulling up before the turn for home when she ran on again late past beaten horses to go fifth. He felt she achieved her best possible placing.  
 Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.   

352B Horse and Jockey Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed B.T. O’Connell, rider of Mark Me Up (GB), placed third, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that B.T. O’Connell was in breach of Regulation 10 3.(g) in that he had used his whip with the arm above shoulder height.
 Having taken his good record into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him as to his future behaviour in this regard.   

352C Michael Fitzgibbon Memorial European Breeders Fund Mares Novice Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed S.J. Gray, rider of Ros Brin, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S.J. Gray was in breach of Regulation 10 3. (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
 Having taken his record into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him as to his future responsibilities in this regard.

 T.P. Treacy, rider of Dead End, trained by R.K. Watson, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

353D Happy St Valentine’s Day Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed D.T. Hughes, trainer of Wise Oscar, regarding the late withdrawal of his charge from this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that while he realised the going was very heavy today, it was only after his stable jockey rode in the first race that he became concerned with Wise Oscar handling the conditions. He felt he was left with no alternative but to seek permission to withdraw the horse.
 Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the withdrawal without penalty but reminded Mr Hughes of his responsibilities in this regard for the future.   

352E Devils Bit Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards granted permission for the fifth last fence to be omitted from this race and from the Rock Of Cashel Handicap Steeplechase in the interest safety due to ground conditions.

Dundalk Meeting, 15th February 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
 Ian Queally rode Fellisha (reserve), trained by Andrew Heffernan (Race 7).

030A Dundalk Stadium – Light Up Your Night Claiming Maiden & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Eusepio, trained by David Marnane, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

030B Floodlit Friday Nights At Dundalk Maiden & D. Robinson, rider of Lake Storm, trained by James M. Barrett, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with some interference in the straight and had to check as a result.

030C Irish Stablestaff Association Awards 23rd February Handicap & The Stewards interviewed B.A. Curtis, rider of the winner Bangalore Diamond, concerning his use of the whip in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that B.A. Curtis was in breach of R10(3)(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
 Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore   suspended him for one race day (1st March).

R. McGlinchey, trainer of Art Show (GB), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge lost her tongue strap prior to the start of this race and subsequently raced without it.

030D www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap & R.P. Cleary, rider of Sweet Annathea, trained by Thomas Cleary, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to be lame post race.

030E(ii) Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards received a report from Ion Hamilton, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the failure of P.K. Donovan, rider of Silenceofthewind (USA), placed fifth, to weigh in after this race. 
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he felt that he was not involved in the official placings’ and apologised for his inattention. 
 Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P.K. Donovan was in breach of Rule 227(i) in that he failed to present himself at Scales.
 Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him and disqualified Silenceofthewind from fifth place in accordance with the provisions of Rule 230(ii).

030F Irish Stablestaff Association Awards 23rd February Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards interviewed Anastasia O’Brien, (in the presence of her master A.P. O’Brien) rider of Fairylike, concerning her use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. 
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Anastasia O’Brien was in breach of R10(3)(f) in that she had used  her whip with excessive frequency.
 Having taken her record into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned her concerning her future responsibilities in this regard.  

Gowran Park Meeting, 16th February 2013

031F(i) Man V’s Beast turn2me.org Challenge On Saturday 9th March Handicap Hurdle (Division One) & The Stewards received a report from Mr R. Deegan, rider of Followmeuptocarlow, trained by T. Donohue, regarding the fact that his mount came down while rounding the bend with a circuit to race.
 Mr Deegan reported that his mount momentarily lost concentration and slipped up independently.  
 Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

031F(ii) Holden Plant Rentals Handicap Hurdle (Division Two)B.J. Cooper, rider of Ardboe Abbey, trained by T. Hogan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled on today’s ground.

031G(i) Ronan Lawlor Memorial Mares (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race (Division One) & The Stewards interviewed Mr M P Fogarty, rider of Shuilamach, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. 
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Fogarty was in breach of R10 (3). (F). in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
 Having taken his previous good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (2nd and 3rd March).

The Stewards interviewed Mr J W O’Neill, rider of the winner Kymins Way concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. 
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of R10 (3). (F). in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
 Having taken his previous good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that She Knows Best, trained by David Harry Kelly, was found to be post race normal.
