In his evidence S.H. James stated that since he is very familiar with the filly, his instructions were simple, to settle the filly wherever she was happy, waken her up in the straight and finish as best as he could. He added that he was to be strong on her if she had a chance of being placed. He said the filly was flat out on the ground from the start and he had to niggle her all the way. He said that in the home straight she found little off the bridle initially, and he thought he would be last at one stage, but she staying on late past beaten horses. He stated he never felt during the race that he had a chance of being placed and so stood up a number of strides from the line believing he had obtained his best possible placing, but in hindsight accepted that maybe he could have finished a place higher.
In his evidence Mr. Rogers confirmed the instructions and stated that watching the race live, he also thought the filly would finish nearer last early in the home straight, but having watched the recording, agreed that the filly ran on well at the finish and could have maybe finished a little closer. He stated that the rider told him the filly did not cope with the ground conditions today and he did not want to abuse the filly late on. She said she left him alone and that he had to run wide of two fallers at the fourth last before entering the straight a well beaten fifth. She further added that the horse put in two great jumps at the last two fences and stayed on at the same pace passed tired horses which had been in contention. It was her opinion that she had obtained her best possible placing and a more forceful ride would not have achieved the same placing or better. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Annacarton was found to be clinically abnormal post race.
