Irish Racing Calendar, 20th September 2012

The following trainer was fined €200 for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provisions of Rule 194 (v) (vi):- Mr. Edward Lynam for Boston Rocker (in season) at the Curragh on 9th September.

Cork Meeting, 13th July 2012

Ms. Debbie Hartnett, trainer of Big Dec, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Wednesday 12th September that her charge ran very poorly in this race and has since been hobdayed.

Galway Meeting, 10th September 2012

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. D.K. Weld for Fastidious (GB) (off feed).

246A Donnelly’s Of Barna European Breeders Fund Maiden & P.J. Smullen, rider of Magnolia Ridge, trained by Mr. D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became upset in the stalls and never travelled in this race.

246B Paschal Corrigan Memorial Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the early stages involving Fit The Cove, ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed third, Wot A Shot, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, placed fourth, Casela Park, ridden by G.P. Halpin, and King Of Queens, ridden by S. Foley, both unplaced, after it appeared that the latter suffered interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and consider the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

G.P. Halpin, rider of Casela Park, trained by Jaclyn Tyrrell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not get a clear run on the turn into the home straight, but stayed on in the closing stages.

The Stewards fined Miss Elizabeth Doyle, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Snowell in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

246C Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Median Auction Fillies Maiden & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the straight involving the winner, Wholelotofrosie, ridden by B.A. Curtis, and Cocktail Hour, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.

246D James P. Cunningham Electrical Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Paul W. Flynn, trainer of Crystal Wings, placed second, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous form.
Mr. Flynn reported that the horse appeared to relish today’s heavy conditions and that the application of blinkers for the first time had helped bring about the improvement.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Soohaad (USA), trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung right in the dip.

R. Coakley, rider of Jappeli, trained by Mr. K.J. Condon reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost her action and never travelled thereafter.

246E Ardilaun Hotel Oyster Stakes & The Stewards enquired into an incident approximately seven furlongs from the finish involving the winner, Chamonix, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, and Macbeth, ridden by S. Foley, unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that J.P. O’Brien had ridden carelessly (Rule 214).
Having taken his recent record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (24th and 28th September).

246F Galway Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from a representative of Mr. D.K. Weld, trainer of the winner Leyland, regarding the apparent improvement in form of  their charge compared to the horse’s previous form.
Mr Weld’s representative reported that the horse appeared to relish today’s step up in trip and that the application of blinkers for the first time had helped bring about the improvement.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

The Stewards interviewed S.A. Gray, rider of Valbucca, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and also from Mr. W. McCreery, trainer of Valbucca.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S.A. Gray was in breach of Regulation 10 in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his record into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

Galway Meeting, 11th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: P. Townend rode Live Trade (reserve), trained by Mr. V.T. O’Brien (second race); Mr. T.M. O’Brien rode What A Island (reserve), trained by Mr. V.T. O’Brien (sixth race); P. Carberry rode Top Four (reserve), trained by Mr. A.J. Martin (sixth race) and Mr. M.P. Fogarty replaced Mr. R.P. McNamara (injured) on Celerity Rules, trained by Mr. M.F. O’Dowd (seventh race).

247A Anglo Printers Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed B.J. Geraghty, rider of the winner Fisher (GB), regarding his use of the whip in the closing stages.  Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that B.J. Geraghty was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (g) in that he had used his whip with his arm above shoulder height.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (26th September).

The Stewards interviewed P.D. Kennedy, rider of Habesh, placed third, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P.D. Kennedy was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (g) in that he had used his whip with his arm above shoulder height.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (26th September).

247B Parkmore Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed C. Brassil, rider of Udontno, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that C. Brassil was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (b) in that he had continued to use his whip after his chance of winning or being placed had clearly gone.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him accordingly.

The Stewards received a report from A.P. Crowe, rider of Two For The Road, trained by Mr. C. Roche, stating that his mount slipped up independently and unseated him shortly after jumping the final hurdle.

C. Brassil, rider of Udontno, trained by Mr. Niall Madden, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount gurgled in running.

247D O’Leary Insurances Handicap Hurdle & B.J. Geraghty, rider of Craigs Dream, trained by Mr. Michael Hourigan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became very tired and was therefore pulled up. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Craigs Dream was found to be blowing hard post race.

247E Deacy Gilligan Novice Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from an authorised representative of Mr. P. O. Brady, trainer of the winner Imperial Shabra, regarding the apparent improvement in form of their charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Kilbeggan on the 7th September where he finished 10th of 11 finishers and was beaten 38 lengths.
Mr Brady’s representative reported that the horse did not stay the three mile and one furlong trip at Kilbeggan and that the drop back in trip today may have brought about any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

E247F Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed Mr. T.M. O’Brien, rider of What A Island, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. O’Brien was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f), in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his excellent record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (26th and 29th September).

247G Jamie Kyne Memorial I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr. S.G. Carey, rider of the winner Dr Linzi, regarding his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Carey was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (g) in that he had used his whip with his arm above shoulder height.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him accordingly.

Galway Meeting, 12th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: The following riders replaced T.J. Doyle (injured):- Mr. D.L. Queally rode Anshan Dreams (GB), trained by Mr. Adrian Maguire (third race) and E.J. O’Connell rode Killcara Boy (GB), trained by Mr. Patrick Neville (fourth race) and M. Darcy replaced Mr. T.D. Geoghegan (Stewards permission) on Peggy’s Hero, trained by Mr. James M. Kiernan (fourth race).

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. J.H. Culloty for Regal D’Estruval (FR) (late withdrawal - lame).

248B Galway City Publicans Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed P. Carberry, rider of Dark Prospect (GB), unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P. Carberry was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (g) in that he had used his whip with his arm above shoulder height.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him.

The Stewards interviewed K.C. Sexton, rider of Indubitably (GB), unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that K.C. Sexton was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (g) in that he had used his whip with his arm above shoulder height.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him.

B.J. Cooper, rider of Charleville (GB), trained by Mr. Barry T. Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount finished lame. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Charleville (GB) was found to be lame post race.

248D Eventus Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. I. Madden, trainer of the winner Weslife, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous form.
Mr. Madden reported that today’s success came as a big surprise to him. He stated that his charge had been running well to a point only to fade away tamely late on in his previous number of races. He said that, following the horse’s most recent run at the Galway festival in his first handicap, the rider told him to run Weslife in a handicap on better ground next time. However, he explained that the horse had been balloted out of numerous handicaps lately so he decided to let him take his chance today in this beginners chase so that he could get a run into the animal. The trainer concluded by that that, while the slightly better ground today helped the horse, he could offer no other explanation for any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

The Stewards interviewed Mr. Thomas P. O’Connor, trainer of Cillcaoibhain, pulled up, concerning the poor performance of his charge in this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer which stated that Cillcaoibhain was found to be clinically normal post race.
Having considered the evidence, and using their powers under Rule 14, the Stewards suspended Cillcaoibhain for sixty days.

248F Ryans Cleaning Steeplechase & The Stewards granted permission for the fourth fence to be omitted from this race in the interests of safety due to the low elevation of the sun.

Mr. S.J. Mahon, trainer of Aranhill Chief, reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that his charge was found to have a cut above his hock post race.

Laytown Meeting, 13th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: W.J. Lee rode Future Earner (reserve), trained by Mr. F. Costello (fifth race).

The Stewards fined the following trainer €130 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Roger Sweeney for Till Dawn (Withdrawn by Order of the Stewards – passport not lodged).

249A Balmarino Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Kateeva, trained by Mr. J.P. Fogarty, was found to be post race normal.

249B Gilna’s Cottage Inn Maiden & The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of Ordinary Man, trained by Mr. W.J. Burke, concerning his actions at the starting post after he failed to partake in this race when a start was effected. 
Evidence was heard from Mr. J.R. Banahan, Turf Club Starter, and from the rider concerned.
In his evidence J.R. Heffernan stated that his mount whipped away from the rear of the field on the first turn to face the start, while on the next attempt he thought that the horse would walk in and jump off. He added that he was about two lengths off the runners when Mr. Banahan started the race and his mount did not participate.
Having viewed a recording of the start and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that J.A. Heffernan was in breach of Rule 208 (ii) (e) and they therefore suspended him from riding for two race days (28th and 30th September) and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee.

B.A. Curtis, rider of Lucas Eile (GB), trained by Mr. F.M. Hanley, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount hung badly throughout this race.

249D thetote.com New Website (Q.R) Handicap & The Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the last two furlongs involving the winner Six Silver Lane (GB), ridden by Mr. P.W. Mullins, He’s Got Rhythm, ridden by Mr. R.P. McNamara, placed third, and Patrickswell, ridden by Miss A. Foley, placed fourth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards did, however, advise both Mr. Mullins and Mr. McNamara to ride with more care in future.

249F Hibernia Steel (Q.R) Race & The Stewards enquired into possible interference at the boundary marker pole immediately before the two furlong pole involving the winner Dream Applause, ridden by Miss P. Ryan, Usa, ridden by Mr. D. O’Connor, placed second, and Golan Heights, ridden by Mr. J.J. Codd, which ran out but continued in the race and was officially placed fifth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Golan Heights from fifth position for taking the wrong course and made no alteration to the Judge’s placings in regard to the first four placed horses.
The Stewards also reminded Mr. Codd of his responsibility to pull up when taking the incorrect course, while they severely cautioned Miss Ryan in relation to her riding which they deemed to be careless.

Down Royal Meeting, 14th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: C.P. Hoban rode Granny On Fire (reserve), trained by Mr. Michael Mulvany (third race).

250B Hobbs Claiming Race & The Stewards informed Mr. John C. McConnell, trainer of Fiftyshadesofred, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

 P.J. Smullen, rider of Mrs Bean, trained by Mr. John Geoghegan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung left in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Mrs Bean was found to be blowing hard post race.

B.A. Curtis, rider of Paper Petal, trained by Mr. J.T. Gorman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly throughout this race.

250C Cruise Nursery Handicap & F. Lynch, rider of Lirico, trained by Mr. David Marnane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

250D Reiss Handicap & The Stewards interviewed I.J. Brennan, rider of Secret Hero (GB), unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that I.J. Brennan was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (b) in that he had used his whip when his chance of winning or being placed had clearly gone, and in breach of Regulation 10 4 in that he had used his whip without giving his mount time to respond.
Having taken his record into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him as to his future responsibilities in this regard.

I.J. Brennan, rider of Secret Hero (GB), trained by Mr. Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount pulled a shoe in running. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

250E House Of Frazer European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & P.J. Smullen, rider of Starstruck, trained by Mr. D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly left throughout this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Starstruck was found to be post race normal.

250G Victoria Square Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages involving Deutschland (USA), ridden by D.E. Mullins, placed fourth, Hunting Tower (GB), ridden by K.J. Manning, Keelaghan, ridden by L.P. Dempsey, and Face Value, ridden by I.J. Brennan, all unplaced, after it appeared that both Hunting Tower (GB) and Face Value suffered interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, in the presence of Mr. J.J. Lambe, trainer, representing Mr. T. Carmody, trainer and master of L.P. Dempsey. 
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the interference was accidental in nature, but advised both D.E. Mullins and L.P. Dempsey to ride with more care in future.

Curragh Meeting, 15th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: J.P. O’Brien replaced C. O’Donoghue (Stewards permission – original mount a non runner) on Nevis, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien (eighth race).

251B Flame Of Tara European Breeders Fund Stakes & J.A. Heffernan, rider of Greek Goddess, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well to two furlongs out, but weakened quickly thereafter. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Greek Goddess was found to be post race normal.
 
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Uleavemebreathless (GB), trained by Mr. A. Oliver, was found to be coughing post race.

251D Gain Horse Feeds Irish St. Leger & The Stewards interviewed R. Kingscote, rider of Brown Panther (GB), placed third, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R. Kingscote was in breach of Regulation 10 3.(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him as to his future responsibilities.  

251E Newbridge 200 Renaissance Stakes & Tracey Collins, trainer of Arctic, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 17th September that her charge made a noise when pulling up after this race.

251F Glanbia Handicap & W.M. Lordan, rider of Hot Bed, trained by Mr. David Wachman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well to a point, but found nothing off the bridle and may prefer better ground. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Hot Bed was found to be post race normal.

251G Curragh Amateur Derby (Q.R) Handicap & The Stewards enquired into two incidents in the home straight. The first incident involved Double Double (FR), ridden by Mr. P.W. Mullins, placed second, Paddy The Celeb, ridden by Mr. J.T. Carroll, placed fourth, Forest Minx, ridden by Mr. D.L. Queally, Benefit Of Porter, ridden by Mr. N.J. Redmond, and Johnnys Legacy, ridden by Miss K. Harrington, all unplaced, after it appeared that interference took place.
The second incident involved Paddy The Celeb, Quench The Flame (GB), ridden by Miss P. Ryan, Phantom Of Plenty, ridden by Mr. J.J. Codd, both unplaced, and First Friday, ridden by Miss F.K. Mullins, after it appeared that interference also took place and ultimately the latter clipped a heel, stumbled and unseated the rider.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, with the exception of Miss F.K. Mullins, who could not attend the enquiry as she was receiving medical attention.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that in the first incident Mr. J.T. Carroll was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for four race days (29th, 30th September and 1st, 3rd October).
In the case of the second incident, the Stewards were of the opinion that the interference caused was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

The Stewards informed Mr. Ross O’Sullivan, trainer of Sparkaway (GB), that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

Listowel Meeting, 16th September 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: R.M. Power replaced E.J. McNamara (injured) on Tristram Shandy, trained by Mr. E. McNamara (second race); P. Townend rode Kilnafrehanstar (reserve), trained by Mr. John E. Kiely (third race) and M.A. Enright  rode Merrydown Vintage (reserve), trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes (fifth race).

252D Low Low European Breeders Fund Mares Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from a representative of Mr. Patrick J. Flynn, trainer of the winner Galianna, regarding the apparent improvement in form of this animal compared to the horse’s previous run at Cork on 13th July.
Mr. Flynn’s representative reported that the horse really disappointed at Cork last time, having previously been quiet consistent.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

Mr. A. McCurtin, rider of Tellherimnothere, trained by Mr. John J. Walsh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled on today’s ground and was therefore pulled up.

Mr. Dermot Anthony McLoughlin, trainer of Music On D Waters, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 17th September that his charge was found to be in season post race.

252E Cheestrings Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards granted permission for fence number seven to be omitted from this race and from the Dawn Milk Handicap Steeplechase in the interests of safety due to ground conditions.

252F Dawn Milk Handicap Steeplechase & N.P. Madden, rider of Gonebeyondrecall, trained by Mr. N.F. Glynn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Gonebeyondrecall was found to be post race normal.

252G Kerry Group I.N.H. Flat Race & Mr. R.O. Harding, rider of Push The Button, trained by Mr. Terence O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

The Stewards fined Mr. Eoin Christopher McCarthy, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of The Fitz Lady in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
