Irish Racing Calendar, 26th July 2012

The following trainer was fined €200 for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provisions of Rule 194 (v) (vi):-.Mr. Gordon Elliott fro Some Fiddle (stiff) at Sligo on 15th July.

Killarney Meeting, 16th July 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: S.G. McDermott replaced M.W. Bowes (unwell) on Appollo Bay, trained by Mr. Philip M. Byrne (first race) and D.E. Splaine replaced J.R. Barry (unwell) on Billy The Builder, trained by Mr. B.J. Hallahan (first race).

179B O’Keeffe’s Marquee Hire Rathmore Handicap the Stewards enquired into the starting positions of the winner, Happy Anniversary, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, drawn No.2 but raced from stall No.1 and Maundy Money (GB), ridden by S.J. James, placed third, drawn No.1 but raced from stall No.2.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned and from the Turf Club Starter Mr. J.R. Banahan.
Having considered all the evidence and the content of Rule 207 and Regulation 13, the Stewards referred this matter to the C.E.O. of the Turf Club for further investigation.

179C Michael Kenny Memorial Apprentice Handicap M.M. Monaghan, rider of Bessie Lou, trained by Mr. Michael Joseph Fitzgerald, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount hung right throughout this race.

179F Bourn Vincent Memorial Park/Killarney Racegoers Club Maiden Hurdle Mr. Patrick Carey, trainer of Tooreen Hall, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his charge was found to be in season post race.

Dundalk Meeting, 16th July 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: L.F. Roche rode Prince Of Dubai (reserve), trained by Mr. Denis W. Cullen (seventh race).

352B Dundalk Handicap The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving the winner Bangalore Diamond, ridden by B.A. Curtis, and Pre Tax Profit, placed second, ridden by N.G. McCullagh.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.

 J.P. O’Brien, rider of Luckiest Owners, trained by Mr. William J. Fitzpatrick, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount hung badly. Mr. William J. Fitzpatrick subsequently reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Tuesday July 17th that his charge was found to be stiff on examination the morning after this race.

 C. O’Donoghue, rider of Madamoislle H, trained by Mr. M. Halford, reported to the Stewards that his mount felt unsound on pulling up.

352E www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Muck ‘N’ Brass, ridden by C. O’Donoghue, after the horse veered sharply left, went through the running rail and unseated the rider.
Evidence was heard from the rider and the trainer Mr. Edward Lynam.
 In his evidence C. O’Donoghue stated that the horse veered to the left suddenly, but he could not identify why his mount had done this. 
In his evidence Mr. Edward Lynam stated that the horse had never shown a tendency like this before and that he was at a loss as to why he did it today.
Having viewed a recording of the incident and considered the evidence, the Stewards deemed the incident to be an accident and took no further action.

352G Follow Dundalk on Twitter Handicap (Division One) D.P. McDonogh, rider of Coppers, trained by Miss Hilary McLoughlin, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount met with interference on the approach to the first bend.

Killarney Meeting, 17th July 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: W.J. Lee replaced C. O’Donoghue (unwell) on Forgiving Light (GB), trained by Mr. A. Oliver (third race).

180A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden F.M. Berry, rider of City Of Fire (GB), trained by Mr. John E. Kiely, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount was slowly out of stalls.

 B.A. Curtis, rider of Salacious Sally, trained by Mr. Donal Kinsella, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount checked off heels on the bottom bend.

180B Easy Clean Ltd. Race The Stewards enquired into two separate incidents of possible interference inside the final one and a half furlongs of this race. The first incident involved the winner Croi An Or, ridden by W.M. Loran, Regulation, ridden by S. Foley, placed third, and Elusive Ridge, ridden by P. J. Smullen, placed fourth. The second incident, which occurred closer to the finish, involved the winner Croi An Or, Regulation and Learn, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.

The Stewards interviewed J.P. O’Brien, rider of Learn, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that J.P. O’Brien was in breach of R10 (3) (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and they therefore severely cautioned him. 

180D Killarney Veterinary Clinic (Q.R.) Race The Stewards interviewed Mr. E.P. O’Brien, rider of Aughnacurraveel, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. E.P. O’Brien was in breach of R10(3)(g) in that he had his whip with his arm above shoulder height and they therefore severely cautioned him.  The Stewards also advised him to familiarise himself with the whip guidelines.

180E Christy McSweeney Memorial Novice Steeplechase The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Bullock Harbour, trained by Mrs. John Harrington, was found to be blowing hard post race.

180F Mike Cronin Readymix Ltd. Handicap Steeplechase The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Instant Impacked, trained by Mr. Robert Tyner, was found to be lame behind post race.

180G Malton Handicap Hurdle The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Sughera, ridden by R. Walsh, and trained by Mr. A.J. Martin.
Evidence was heard from the rider and from Mr. Michael Cromwell, representing Mr. A.J. Martin. 
In his evidence Mr. Cromwell stated that the instructions were to drop the filly in early on and get her settled, as she can be very free, and make the best of his way home. 
In his evidence R. Walsh stated that he thought today’s trip would suit his mount, but she became upset before the race and whilst he rode as instructed, he felt that the mare ran very freely until settling going out on the final circuit.  He added that he got a good run down the inner in the back straight, but his mount came off the bridle on the final bend and she failed to respond under his urgings.  He felt his mount had no more to give and he did not want to resort to the whip under these circumstances.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer, which stated that Sughera was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Stewards requested a report from Mr. P.J. Rothwell, trainer of the winner Slim To None, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge in this race compared to the horse’s recent runs. 
Mr. Rothwell reported that the horse disappointed him at Tramore last time having run well previous to that race.  He said that he therefore decided to give the horse a break from training to freshen him up and this appears to have had the desired affect.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

Killarney Meeting, 18th July 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: G. Malone rode Back On The Road (reserve), trained by Mr. A.L.T. Moore (fifth race).

181A Sika Signs Maiden E.J. McNamara, rider of Esporao, trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount stood in the stalls when the gates opened and lost a lot of ground.

181B Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap F.M. Berry, rider of Lady Bennett, trained by Mr. C.F. Swan, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount was very distressed post race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Lady Bennett was found to be post race normal.

181C Killarney Oils Ltd. Handicap C.P. Hogan, rider of Summer Knight, trained by Mr. A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards that his mount clipped a heel, stumbled and lost his position.

181D John Buckley Auctioneers Beginners Steeplechase John E. Kiely, trainer of Life Of Reilly (NZ), reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his charge made a respiratory noise in running. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Life Of Reilly (NZ) was found to have a noticeable discharge from both nostrils post race.

181E Ladbrokes Handicap Steeplechase E. Mullins, rider of Split Ear, trained by Mr. Anthony Mullins, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount slipped and made a mistake at the second fence and lost his confidence thereafter.

 B.R. Dalton, rider of Torremuelle, trained by Mr. David Edward Finn, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount met with bad interference at his fences on the first circuit.

181F Bunkers Bar Killorglin Handicap Hurdle The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Sweet Shock (GER), trained by Mr. Michael O’Hare, was found to have a respiratory abnormality post race.  Samples were taken for analysis.

Killarney Meeting, 19th July 2012

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. C.F. Swan for Rodriguez (declared in error).

182A Corcoran’s Furniture & Carpets Maiden The Stewards requested a report from Mr Noel Meade, trainer of the winner Smithfield, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Leopardstown 15th June when the animal finished ninth and was beaten 54 lengths by the winner Whatever Jacksays.
Ms Emma Connolly, Authorised Representative for Mr Meade, reported that the gelding was unable to handle the heavy ground conditions at Leopardstown last time. 
Having considered the report the Stewards noted the content of it.

182C Europe Hotel & Resort Handicap R. Dawson, rider of Concrete And Clay (GB), trained by Mr. Charles O’Brien, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount ran flat throughout. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer, reported to the Stewards that Concrete And Clay (GB) was found to be post race normal.

The Stewards fined Mr. John Joseph Hanlon, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Darenjan, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

182E Dawn 1% Lite Milk Handicap Hurdle The Stewards enquired into an incident shortly after the turn into the straight involving Noble Steele, ridden by A.J. McNamara, and Marshim, ridden by Ian Power.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the incident and considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned I.J. Power to be more careful in his riding in future and took no further action.

 J.R. Barry, rider of The Rossmeister, trained by Mr. Eoin Doyle, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount never travelled on today’s ground.  The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that The Rossmeister was found to be post race normal.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that China Goes Green, trained by Mr. J.T.R. Dreaper, was found to be lame behind post race.  Samples were taken for analysis.

The Stewards fined Mr. Sean Byrne, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Electric Palm in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

182G Christy Lucey Transport Ltd. Flat Race The Stewards enquired into an incident nearing the end of the back straight involving Super Cloud, ridden by Mr. L.P. Flynn and Cloudy Morning, ridden by Mr. D.L. Queally, both unplaced. 
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. D.L. Queally had ridden improperly and they therefore suspended him for 14 racedays (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 19th and 20th August).

The Stewards fined Mr. Eugene M. O’Sullivan, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Theos Well (GB) in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

Leopardstown Meeting, 19th July 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of rider at this meeting: G.J. Philips replaced Danny Benson (unwell) on Shelas Wish, trained by Mr. John C. McConnell (first race) and on Ceolteori, trained by Mr. John C. McConnell (fourth race).

183B Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden C. O’Donoghue, rider of Ralson Road, trained by Mr. John Patrick Shanahan, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount hung in this race.

183C leopardstown.com Maiden P.J. Smullen, rider of Leyland, trained by Mr. D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

183D Silver Flash Stakes (Group 3) Wayne Lordan, rider of True Verdict, trained by Mr. David Wachman, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount ran flat in this race.  The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that True Verdict was found to be post race normal.

183E “Roy Seven” Rated Race The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Battle Of Saratoga, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, was found to be post race normal.

183F Stillorgan Handicap The Stewards requested a report from Mrs. John Harrington, trainer of the winner Back Burner, regarding the apparent improvement in form compared with the horse’s previous run at Leopardstown on 14th June.
 The trainer reported that her charge disappointed at Leopardstown last time on very soft ground, but appreciated today’s better underfoot conditions.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

 The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: the following riders replaced P. Carberry (injured); M. Darcy rode Limpopo Tom, trained by Mr. Paul W. Flynn (first race); D.J. Condon rode Some Fiddle, trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott (second race), Tarquinius (FR), trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott (fourth race) and Mickelson, trained by Mr.  Noel Meade (fifth race); S.W. Flanagan replaced T.P. Treacy (Stewards Permission) on Vickie, trained by Mr. Michael McCullagh (second race); D.N. Russell replaced D.J. Condon (Stewards Permission) on Pat Garrett, trained by Mr. Noel Meade (fifth race); D.E. Mullins rode Templemills (reserve), trained by Mr. Thomas Cleary (fifth race); D.N. Russell replaced B.R. 184A Follow Kilbeggan on Facebook Maiden Hurdle S. Flanagan, rider of Lilly The Lioness, trained by Mr. S.J. Treacy, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running and stopped quickly.

The Stewards fined Mr. J.P. Broderick, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of The Long Mile, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

184B Tom McCormack Memorial Cup Mares Maiden Hurdle The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Wicklow Whizz, trained by Mr. Peter Maher, was found to be blowing hard post race.

184C Coola Handicap Hurdle B.J. Geraghty, rider of Crocus Bay, trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount found little in the final three furlongs of this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Crocus Bay was found to be lame post race.

184D Ladies Day at Kilbeggan Handicap Hurdle Sean Flanagan, rider of Hollyville, trained by Mr. Colin Bowe, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount burst a blood vessel and was therefore pulled up.

P.W. Flood, rider of Bean Chroi Bhriste, trained by Mr. M. Flannery, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.  The trainer subsequently reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 23rd July that Bean Chroi Bhriste was found to be in season on the morning after the running of this race.

184E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Steeplechase The Stewards received a report from Mr P. L. Malone, Turf Club Starter, which stated that a false start to this race was caused by the field approaching the tape before the allocated start time.
 Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Double Seven, trained by Mr. Martin Brassil, was found to have an overreach on his off fore post race.

184F Gigginstown House Midlands National Handicap Chase The Stewards granted permission for the fence before the stands to be omitted in this race in the interest of safety due to the low trajectory of the sun.

B.J. Geraghty, rider of Norther Bay (FR), trained by Mr. Eoin Griffin, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount made mistakes and was therefore pulled up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Prince Of Milan, trained by Mr. Andrew Slattery, was found to be distressed post race.

Curragh Meeting, 21st July 2012

185C D&M Trucks Kilcullen Supporting KARE Handicap J.P. Murtagh, rider of Ballivor, trained by Mr. W.T. Farrell, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount travelled well until one furlong out after which he stopped quickly.

185E Parfit Mobility Vehicles Supporting KARE Nursery Handicap P.J. Smullen, rider of Versilia Gal, trained by Mr. Patrick Martin, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount ran keen early on and hung badly.

Curragh Meeting, 22nd July 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: J.P. O’Brien replaced J.A. Heffernan (Stewards Permission) on Count Of Limonade, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien (third race).

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. A.P. O’Brien for Cristoforo Colombo (USA) (change in going) and Mr. J.S. Bolger for Heavy Weight (declared in error).

186C Kilboy Estate Stakes The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages of this race involving Caponata (USA), ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed second, and Shebella, ridden by J.P. Murtagh, placed fifth, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that any interference was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

The Stewards interviewed J P O’Brien, rider of Up, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who admitted that he had used his whip without giving his mount time to respond and apologised for his actions.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found that J.P. O’Brien was in breach of Regulation  10 3.(excessive frequency) and Regulation 10 4. (use of the whip without giving his mount time to respond). Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (13th & 15th August).      

F.M. Berry, rider of Princess Sinead, trained by Mrs. John Harrington, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount lost her action in this race.

186D Thalgo Ladies Derby The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages of this race involving Paramount (FR), ridden by Miss M. Pisarek, placed second, Prince Chaparral, ridden by Miss A.B. O’Connor, placed third, Scots Gaelic, ridden by Miss J.M. Mangan, placed fourth, Salam Alaykum, ridden by Ms. K. Walsh, placed fifth, and Star Power, ridden by Miss D. Quinlan, unplaced, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. 
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that any interference was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

The Stewards interviewed Mr. A.P. O’Brien, trainer, and Miss S. O’Brien, rider, in relation to the failure of Miss O’Brien, intended rider of Chicago, to arrive at the track and present herself at scales in time for this race as stipulated under Rule 196.
Evidence was heard from the trainer and rider concerned.
In his evidence Mr. A.P. O’Brien stated that he and the rider had expected to arrive in good time for this race, but, following an unexpected air traffic delay, they had been unable to do so.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered and took no further action.

186E Darley Irish Oaks The Stewards enquired into two separate instances of possible interference in this race. The first incident involved Shirocco Star (GB), ridden by J.P. Murtagh, placed second, and Was, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, placed fourth, after it appeared interference had taken place. The second incident involved the winner Great Heavens, ridden by William Buick, and Colliding Worlds, ridden by F.M. Berry, placed sixth, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. 
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings.
The Stewards, however, found that J.P. Murtagh had ridden carelessly, and having taken his good record into account, they suspended him for two race days (5th & 6th August).  

186F Bettor.com Rockingham Handicap The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Empirico (FR), trained by Mr. D. Marnane, was found to be post race normal.

186H Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Wonderful, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, was found to be post race normal.

Tipperary Meeting, 22nd July 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: the following riders replaced R.J. Jones (injured); B.J. Cooper rode Jack Cool, trained by Mr. C. Byrnes (first race); B.R. Dalton rode Magdoodle, trained by Mr. Mark J. Doyle (fourth race); M.A. Enright rode Frankie Flowers (GB), trained by Mr. Philip Fenton (fifth race) and B.T. O’Connell rode Kilflora (GB), trained by Mr. Philip Fenton (sixth race); M.P. Walsh replaced A.P. McCoy (injured) on Captain Cee Bee, trained by Mr. Edward P. Harty (third race); R.T. Dunne replaced K.M. Donoghue (unwell) on Venusinfurs, trained by Mr. M.A. Molloy (fifth race).

187B Michael Maher Building & Construction Services Ltd. Beginners Steeplechase D.J. Condon, rider of Jakros, trained by Mr. Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake at the third last and that he was eased thereafter. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Jakros was found to be post race normal.

187D Ballykisteen Hotel & Gold Resort Hurdle B.J. Cooper, rider of Whispering Hills, trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount jumped very poorly and never travelled in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Whispering Hills was found to be post race normal.

187E Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle The Stewards interviewed S.J Hassett, rider of Supreme Bob, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. 
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S.J. Hassett was in breach of Regulation. 10 4 in that he failed to give his mount time to respond. The Stewards therefore severely cautioned him in this regard for the future.
