143A Curraghmore Beginners S'chase

The Raceday Stewards interviewed Joe Canty, Authorised Representative for Peter Maher, trainer, concerning the failure to nominate a rider before the designated time for Low Lie The Fields. Mr. Canty stated that confusion arose at the time of declaration between two riders of the same surname and as a consequence the trainer missed the deadline for nomination of the intended rider. Furthermore, Mr. Canty nominated Mr B. T. Stone at scales and was requesting permission to allow this nomination. Having considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards allowed the request on this occasion and took no further action other than to remind the trainer, through his Authorised Representative of his responsibilities under Regulation 3 to nominate a rider on time.

The Raceday Stewards interviewed C.P. Millar, rider of Gold Haven, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted that he was in breach of the regulation and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that C. P. Millar was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g) (frequency) and having considered his record in this regard (second offence), they suspended him for five racedays.

The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Eoin Doyle, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Rauzan, placed first, as compared with its most recent form. The trainer reported that his charge disappointed on its previous run having jumped poorly in the early stages.
