The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Broken Silence, trained by Reginald Roberts, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race.
S.T. McCullagh, rider of Broken Silence trained by Reginald Roberts, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled and stopped very quickly in the straight.
245C1 Junction H'capL.F. Roche, rider of Philly's Hope trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount got tight for room at the first bend.
R.P. Cleary, rider of Sapphire Pearl trained by Brendan W.Duke, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung right up the straight.
The Stewards requested a report from Leanne Breen, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Starlight Red, placed second, as compared with its most recent run. Leanne Breen stated that her charge found the going at Gowran Park on the second of September much too soft and that conditions today were ideal for her charge. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation given.
The Stewards reviewed an incident on the first bend where it appeared that several horses got tight for room. Having considered the matter the Stewards decided that no further action was warranted.
245C2 Junction H'capThe Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages of this race involving Kudbegood, ridden by E.J. McNamara, who dead heated for fifth and Burning Lake, ridden by D.W. O'Connor, placed second, where it appeared that Kudbegood ran short of room and had to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference caused was accidental in nature and they took no further action.
245E Tipperay H'capThe Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Snow Patch trained by D.J. Bunyan was found to have blood at both nostrils possibly as a result of exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage.
The Stewards requested a report from John C. McConnell, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Seanjohnsilver, placed first, as compared with its recent form. John C. McConnell stated that his charge has been awkward leaving the stalls on its previous runs and after its most recent run at Navan he suspected that his charge was resenting the drop nose band that all his horses run in. He felt that the removal of the drop nose band today coupled with the fact that his charge jumped well today had helped to bring about the improvement in form when compared with its recent form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation given.
245F Racing Again October 3rd & 4th M'dnThe Stewards interviewed C.D. Maxwell, rider of Peckham Springs, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found C. D. Maxwell in breach of Regulation 10.3.(b), the unnecessary hitting of a horse after its chance of winning or being placed is clearly gone. Having considered C. D. Maxwells record in this regard and pursuant to Regulation 10.6.(a) the Stewards suspended C. D. Maxwell for six racedays.
