Mr. C. Abernathy replaced J.P. O'Sullivan on Jaunty Velocity (GB), trained by Patrick Eugene Turley (Race 6)(stood down).

397A Welcome Back Racehorse Owners Mdn Hdle

At the request of the Stewards, H.P. Cleary, rider of Figurehead, trained by Michael G. Cleary, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was very free from the start, hung right all the way and just stayed going.

The Stewards interviewed B. Browne, rider of Na Caith Tobac (HOL), concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he lost count of the number of times he used his whip and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied B. Browne was in breach of Regulation 10.3.(g)(frequency) and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 2 racedays.

397B Yellow Furze (Mares) Mdn H'dle

M.J. Bolger, rider of Rambling Rose trained by Stephen Ryan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a bad mistake at the third last.

The Stewards enquired into an incident after the second last involving Derridae, ridden by D.J. McInerney, placed fifth and Must Be Obeyed, ridden by J.P. O'Sullivan, placed fourth, where it appeared Must Be Obeyed made contact with Derridae. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D.J. McInerney stated that his horse couldn't hold its place when Must Be Obeyed jumped left and caused him to take a precautionary check which made no difference to his finishing place. J.P. O'Sullivan stated that the horse in front of him went right on landing over the second last causing him to switch in to avoid clipping heels. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental in nature and took no further action.

397C Stackallan H'cap H'dle

The Stewards interviewed L.A. McKenna, rider of Kasakh Noir (FR), concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he lost count of his whip use and accepted he was over the whip guidelines. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied L.A. McKenna was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency). Having considered his record in this regard and pursuant to Regulation 10.6(a) the Stewards suspended him for 7 racedays.

The Stewards interviewed Mr C. Abernethy, rider of Lusis Naturea (GB), concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount was going forward and he didn't want to loose the momentum. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. C. Abernethy was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency) and considering his record in this regard suspended him for 2 racedays.

The Stewards interviewed J.C. Canavan, rider of Made In Pimlico, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he was in with a chance as his horse was running on so he continued to use his whip. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that J.C. Canavan was in breach of R10.3.(g)(frequency). Having considered his record in this regard and pursuant to R10.6(a) the Stewards suspended him for 7 racedays.

P.J. O'Hanlon, rider of Oromo trained by Karl Thornton, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never picked up.

J.P. O'Sullivan, rider of Baltinglass Hill trained by P.J. Rothwell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a bad mistake at the last and his saddle slipped on the run in.

The Stewards interviewed C.F. Hart, rider of Nomadic Star, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his horse made a few mistakes in the straight and he used his whip to try and keep him moving forward. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that C.F. Hart was in breach of R10.3(g)(frequency) and R10.3(i)(time to respond) and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 4 racedays. Furthermore the Stewards ordered that he attend R.A.C.E. for 1 day for tuition on the correct use of the whip.

397D Kilberry M'dn H'dle

The Stewards interviewed Miss M.M. McElligott, rider of Motion In Limine, concerning her use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that her horse was responding and she lost count in the moment. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that Miss M.M. McElliott was in breach of R10.3(g)(frequency) and considering her record in this regard they cautioned her on this occasion.

397E1 Gormanlough H'cap H'dle

The Stewards requested a report from John Joseph Hanlon, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Nasee (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent run at Limerick on the 27th May. The trainer reported that his charge had setbacks in training and made his seasonal debut at Limerick where the ground deteriorated as the day progressed. In his opinion todays success was gained by the race being a weak contest and furthermore his charge really appreciated the good ground. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

The Stewards enquired into possible interference after the last involving Only For Pascal, ridden by C.D. Maxwell, placed dead heated for third, Callaghy Rose, ridden by H. McOwan, placed dead heated for third and Rubiana, ridden by M.J. Bolger, placed second, where it appeared Rubiana drifted left and caused interference. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. C.D. Maxwell stated that his horse was running on well when meeting interference from his outside which he felt cost him a place. H. McOwan stated that his horse got carried left by Rubiana which caused him to check and cost him a place. M.J. Bolger stated that he was aware of the horses on his inner and accepted that he had caused interference. He further added that he put down his whip and straightened his mount using his reins. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that while interference had occurred it did not cause any horse to improve its placing and therefore made no alteration to Judges placings. The did however find M.J. Bolger had ridden carelessly and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 2 racedays.

397F1 Rathkenny H'cap H'dle

The Stewards interviewed Shane Fenelon, rider of Mezyan (FR), concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he was in contention and lost count of his use of the whip. He further added that he had his head down riding a finish and used it once having past the finish line. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that Shane Fenlon was in breach of Regulation 10.3(d)(past the winning line) and 10.3(g)(frequency) and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 3 racedays.

The Stewards interviewed R. Deegan, rider of Time And Times, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount was hanging to the right and his first three strikes were for corrective reasons. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that R. Deegan was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency) and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 1 raceday.

The Stewards requested a report from J.P. Flavin, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Better Than Heaven, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Mr. J.P. Flavin reported that in his opinion his charge ran well on its first run at Punchestown on the 1st of March, was unable to handle the very fast ground and undulating track at Clonmel on the 13th of May and on its most recent run got stuck in the soft ground at Punchestown on the 29th of May. He felt that todays ground was lovely NH ground and the race was of a poor standard, both of which he contributed to the animals success. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

397F2 Rathkenny H'cap H'dle

The Stewards interviewed B. Browne, rider of Punters Poet, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted he had used his whip excessively and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that B. Browne was in breach of R10.3.(g)(frequency) and R10.3(i)(time to respond) and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 4 racedays.

The Stewards interviewed S. O'Callaghan, rider of Royal Recital, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he lost count of the number of times he used his whip and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that S. O'Callaghan was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency) and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 3 racedays.

The Stewards interviewed D.J. Hand, rider of Autumn Crusade, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted he had used his whip when out of contention. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence which included a report from the IHRB veterinary officer the Stewards were satisfied that D.J. Hand was in breach of Regulation 10.3(b)(out of contention) and Regulation 10.3(f)(force) and considering his record in this regard, they suspended him for 2 racedays.

A.W. Short, rider of Where's Bunny trained by N Dooly, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stumbled indepentantly and unseated him on the bend before the second hurdle. Having viewed a recording of the incident the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
