The Raceday Stewards interviewed Alyse Jane Clarke, rider of If But Maybe, concerning her use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that she felt her mount was dropping out and she used her whip to try and get her going forward as she was leaning a little left also. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards were satisfied Alyse Jane Clarke was in breach of R10.3(b) (unnecessary hitting of a horse after its chance of winning or being placed is clearly gone) and having taken her record into account (first offence) they suspended her for two racedays. Miss Elaine O' Farrell accompanied Ms. Clarke for this enquiry.
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from M.A.Cahill, trainer, following the winning performance of Akeela (GB) in this race, which appeared to represent an improvement on its previous run. M.A. Cahill stated that his charge over raced in the early stages on its previous run and that todays fast pace allowed her to settle and finish out her race well, the Raceday Stewards considered the report and noted the explanation offered.
