141A RED MILLS EBF Auction M'dn H'dle

At the request of the Raceday Stewards, J. Coen, rider of Cocovic, trained by E. McNamara, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped novicey throughout.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into the circumstances regarding watering at this meeting following a report from Mr. P. Moloney, IHRB Clerk of the Course, that he requested more watering this morning, a request that was not followed. Evidence was heard from Mr. M. Lynch, racecourse manager, Mr. D. Bustin, racecourse foreman and the Clerk of the Course. P. Moloney stated that he requested the foreman and manager that he wanted more watering at 9.30am this morning and that this was not done. Mr. Bustin stated that they applied 120mls of water and got 44mls of rain prior to today's meeting and spiked the turf. He stated that the watering equipment was put away by the time they got the request to water and they had no time to water at that stage. Mr. Lynch initially stated that they weren't advised to water but later confirmed that they were. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards advised the racecourse manager and track foreman to take the advice of the Clerk of the Course in future.

P. Hanlon, rider of Like A Bumblebee, trained by Michael Winters, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount bolted to the start, cocked his jaw and ran out.

The Raceday Stewards advised Michael Winters, trainer of Like A Bumblebee, that a repeat performance of this horse where it bolted to the start before cocking its jaw and running out may render him liable to suspension in future.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Quinn The Eskimo (GER), trained by Paul Nolan, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Raceday Stewards interviewed D.J Gilligan, rider of You Done Well, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he picked up his stick early, his horse rallied and he miscounted. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards found the rider in breach of Reg.10.3.(g)(frequency) and having taken his clean record into account suspended him for two race days.

K. Callaghan, rider of Hob's Angel, trained by James M. Barcoe, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung left throughout.

The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Kieran Purcell, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of You Done Well, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Miss A. Dunphy, Authorised Representative, reported that this horse made a mistake early the last day and seemed to lose interest thereafter. Today with blinkers applied and a positive ride together with jumping better seemed to bring about the apparent improvement. Having considered the report the Raceday Stewards noted the explanation offered.

J. Morrison, trainer of Sea The Sunset (GB), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was coughing post race.

The Raceday Stewards interviewed Mr A.J. Browne, rider of West Of Carrig, trained by Don Browne, concerning his riding in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he mistook the 50 yard post for the winning post when in second place. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule 212A (iv)(negligent misjudgement) and having taken his clean record into account suspended him for seven race days.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into the circumstances where it appeared the inside wing was taken down on the third last hurdle with the race still in progress. Evidence was heard from Mr. P. Moloney, IHRB Clerk of the Course, Mr. D. Bustin, track foreman and Mr. M. Lynch, racecourse manager. Mr. Moloney stated that the wing was taken down due to a miscommunication among the hurdle stewards. Mr. Bustin stated that it was taken down due to human error but that all the staff on that hurdle have been trained on the correct procedures for adjusting the track. Mr. Lynch stated that the mistake was due to human error. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards advised all parties to prioritise the training of the relevant staff in the future.
