117E Gerard O'Sullivan Memorial Novice S'ch

P. Townend, rider of Saldier (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount pulled up in front and jumped right at the final fence.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference at the final fence involving Saldier (FR), ridden by P. Townend, placed first, and Vina Ardanza, ridden by J.S. McGarvey, placed second, where it appeared contact was made. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. J.S. McGarvey stated that he had made a bad mistake at the second last fence, which forced him to switch outside Saldier on approach to the final fence where Saldier jumped right and collided with Vina Ardanza causing him to lose momentum. P. Townend stated that his mount ran straight to the last fence but jumped right on take off and felt he was always holding the second place horse to the line. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that while Saldier had caused interference to Vina Ardanza,on the balance of probabilities he had not improved his finishing position as a result of this interference,so they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings, and therefore took no further action.
