Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
In his evidence the rider admitted the offence and stated that he was receiving riding instructions from Mr Murphy who was not present at today’s meeting and who had not relayed any instructions to his Authorised Representative. J.A. Heffernan apologised for his actions.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned the rider concerning his obligation to comply with the Instruction R16 which pertains to the use of mobile phones.

The Stewards enquired into an incident soon after the start of this race involving the winner Morning With Ivan, ridden by K.J. Manning, Burnt Sienna, ridden  by J.A. Heffernan, placed second,  Henry Higgins, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, placed fourth, Lake Louise, ridden by W.M. Lordan, placed fifth, Connacht Control, ridden by S.B. Kelly, and Blue Ale, ridden by C. O’Donoghue, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was caused by K.J. Manning being in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. The Stewards therefore severely cautioned him.

F.M. Berry, rider of Newberry Hill, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount may not have handled today’s ground.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Newberry Hill at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

072G Thomastown Maiden & The Stewards received a report from the W. Fleming, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that S.J. Hassett, rider of Nurse Ryan, placed fourth, weighed in 3.6 lbs overweight after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he was riding at his lightest possible weight and had shed weight to ride today. He added that he had a cup of tea and a small drink after weighing out and was unable to account for the amount of overweight recorded.
Evidence was also heard from Martin Hassett, trainer of Nurse Ryan. In his evidence Mr Hassett stated that he saddled his charge with the exact tack as handed out at the scales.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S.J. Hassett was in breach of Rule 231 in that he weighed in more than 1.5 lbs overweight. The Stewards therefore fined him €100 and also advised him concerning his responsibility in this regard for the future.

The Stewards interviewed S.J. Hassett, rider of Nurse Ryan, placed fourth, trained by Martin Hassett, concerning his riding in the latter stages of this race when in contention for third place.
Evidence was heard from the trainer and rider concerned.
In his evidence S.J. Hassett stated that he had made up ground to race alongside the winner and was possibly upsides or in front at the two furlong pole when he became involved in close raceriding with another runner. He added that his mount was bumped outwards after this point and the winner and second gained the upper hand on the remaining challengers. He said that, in his opinion, Miss Ekaterina, ridden by K.J. Manning, outstayed his mount in the closing stages and he just rode hands and heels to his strongest ability.
In his evidence Martin Hassett stated that he felt his charge was a fit as could  be expected after a four month absence from the racecourse and that, in his opinion, the rider pushed out his mount when in a challenging position but he may have been somewhat weak in the last furlong. He said he had no problem with the whip not being applied as it is the owner’s choice that this filly is not abused in running.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Nurse Ryan at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the trainer’s explanation. They were, however, of the opinion that S.J. Hassett was in beach of Rule 212 in that he failed to attain his best possible placing.
The Stewards therefore suspended him for five race days and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Ms. Roseanna Lawlor, authorised representative of P.J. Rothwell.
In her evidence Ms. Lawlor stated that the trainer would not be prepared for their filly to carry 5 lb overweight in her first handicap and requested a substitute if possible. However, due to the conditions of the race and the short time frame, a substitute could not be found, and the Stewards therefore ordered the withdrawal of Around The Bend from this race.
In his evidence P.C. O’Donnell stated that his scales at home must not be working properly because he thought he only had about 2 lb to lose once he arrived at the track. However, on arrival realised he had in fact in excess of 6 lb to lose. He further stated that his last ride on the track was at Cork about two weeks ago. He also said that he had ridden at 8st last year, but after the winter his weight had crept up. Furthermore, he apologised to all concerned.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P.C. O’Donnell was in breach of Rule 195 in that it is his responsibility to weigh out at the correct weight.
