Turf Club Calendar Notices - Week 32

 

Irish Racing Calendar, 8th August 2013

The following trainers were fined €200 in each case for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provision of Rule 194(v) (vi):- S.J. Mahon for Ned the Vet (lame) at Ballinrobe on 23rd July and Michael Hourigan for Whats Happening (stone bruise) at Limerick 25th July.

Galway Meeting, 29th July 2013

The Stewards fined the following trainer in respect of his non-runner:-
Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer of Vedani (ground conditions) - €200.

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
Mr R.J. Kiely rode Zeftan (reserve), trained by Peter McCreery (Race 4).

196B Sean ‘The Budgie’ Burgess Memorial Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Adrian Maguire, trainer of Anshan Dreams (GB), regarding the late arrival of the horse into the parade ring.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that the horse proved very difficult to saddle and the process took longer than anticipated.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards reminded the trainer concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

A.E. Lynch, rider of Raydari (FR), trained by Roger Sweeney, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was struck into in this race and was therefore pulled up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Raydari (FR) was struck into in this race and was found to be slightly lame post race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Usa, trained by S.J. Mahon, was found to be blowing hard, but was otherwise post race normal.

196D Connacht Hotel (Q.R) Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Notable Graduate, trained by D.K. Weld, was found to be slightly lame in front post race.

196E Claytonhotelgalway.ie Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident before the turn into the straight involving Lady O’ Malley, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, Longfield Lad, ridden by W.J. Lee, Anner Queen, ridden by T.P. O’Shea, and Ravello Again, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, all unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.
Mr Steve McDonogh, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Peace Accord (GB), trained by D.K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

196F Galway Oyster Hotel Handicap & The Stewards received a report from the I. Hamilton, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding that fact that G.F. Carroll, rider of Lady Giselle, placed second, weighed in 1.6 pound underweight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, from John J. Walsh, trainer, and from Brendan Walsh, assistant trainer.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Lady Giselle from second place in accordance with Rule 231 and took no further action.


The Stewards interviewed F.M. Berry, rider of the winner Dark Crusader, concerning his use of the whip in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that F.M. Berry was in breach of Regulation 10( 4), in that he had used his whip without giving his mount a chance to respond.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (12th August).

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Great Explorer, trained by A.P. O’Brien, was found to be post race normal.

196G Pillohotelgalway.com I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving the winner Wicklow Brave (GB), ridden by Mr P.W. Mullins, Marty’s Magic, ridden by Mr R.P. McNamara, placed second, and Sukiyaki, ridden by Ms K. Walsh, placed fourth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that, while interference had occurred, they were not satisfied that the winner had improved his finishing position as a result.
The Stewards therefore made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that Mr Mullins had ridden carelessly (Rule 214).
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for four race days (12th, 15th, 17th and 18th August).

Galway Meeting, 30th July 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
Katherine S. O’Brien rode Beat The Bell (GB) (reserve), trained by David Peter Nagle (Race 6).

197D Topaz Mile Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the early stages of this race involving, Brog Deas, ridden by D.M. Grant, placed second, Pintura (GB), ridden by C.R. King, placed fifth, Campanology (GB), ridden by N.G. McCullagh, and Captain Cullen, ridden by I.J. Brennan, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Edward Harty, who accompanied apprentice C.R. King in the Steward’s Room.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

F.M. Berry, rider of Billyford, trained by Liam Roche, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to be lame post race.

197E Caulfieldindustrial.com European Breeders Fund Maiden & The Stewards received a report from I. Hamilton, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that D.A. McCormack, rider of Keep Straight, placed fourth, weighed in 1.8lbs overweight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.A. McCormack was in breach of Rule 231.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (14th August).

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Pirate Cove, trained by D.K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

197F Caulfield Industrial Athlone Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Patrick Martin, trainer of the winner Footprint, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
Bernard Caldwell, representing the trainer, reported that the horse disappointed on his previous run at Navan over an inadequate trip of five furlongs. He added that today’s step up to seven furlongs helped the horse return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

Galway Meeting, 31st July 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
D.J. Condon rode Lets Go Sunshine (reserve), trained by Colin Bowe (Race 3).
I.J. Brennan replaced B.A. Curtis on Toufan Express, trained by Adrian McGuinness (Race 6) (Original mount a non-runner).
Catherine S. O’Brien rode Great Ability (reserve), trained by T. Hogan (Race 6).

198A €100,000 Tote Pick Six Guarantee Maiden Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Some Article, trained by Thomas Mullins, was found to be post race normal.

198D Tote Win 24% Better Than Bookmakers SP (Q.R) Maiden & The Stewards interviewed Mr M. Fahey, rider of Owega Star, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10 3(f), in that he used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for four race days (15th, 17th, 18th and 19th August).

198E www.thetote.com Galway Plate & The Stewards interviewed Edward P. Harty, trainer of Like Your Style, concerning the withdrawal of his charge from this race due to ground conditions.
Evidence was heard from Noel O’Brien, Turf Club Senior National Hunt Handicapper, who stated that this horse has shown his best form in soft or heavy conditions, adding that both his wins came on soft ground. He concluded by saying that the horse’s best recent form came on heavy ground when finishing second in the Troytown Chase at Navan.
Evidence was also heard from the trainer concerned, who accepted that Like Your Style has shown his best form in soft conditions, but this he felt was more circumstantial than anything, with soft conditions more common in Ireland. He felt that, in his opinion, his charge would prefer better ground. Regarding the run on heavy ground at Navan, he felt that this left it’s mark on the horse, who failed to run to form on his two subsequent starts. He concluded by saying that Like Your Style is only just ready to run after a break and he did not want to risk the rest of the season by subjecting the horse to a hard race in conditions far from ideal.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

198G Tote Trifecta Rollover Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Adrian McGuinness, trainer of the winner Toufan Express, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent run at Bellewstown.
The trainer reported that his charge disappointed at Bellewstown on a sharp course which may not have suited. He added that the horse is an eleven year old who can be difficult to train and has returned to form on a track which he has won on in the past.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

M.M. Monaghan, rider of Morethanafeeling, trained by C.P. Donoghue, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran out of racing room and had to switch to gain a run.

Galway Meeting 1st August 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
S.A. Shortall rode Redera (reserve), trained by A.J. Martin (Race 6).
Mr P.W. Mullins rode Shesafoxylady (reserve), trained by W.P. Mullins (Race 8).

199G IRFU Charitable Trust Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from John Joseph Murphy, trainer of Idlewild (GB), placed third, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer’s representative reported that the horse did not enjoy the run of the race in his previous race on ground that was faster than ideal for him.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

199H Guinness Quarter I.N.H. Flat Race & Mr. D.L. Queally, rider of Son Of Annie, trained by G.T. Lynch, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount jinked and unseated him after the race.

Galway Meeting, 2nd August 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
R. Walsh replaced P. Townend on Another Ambition, trained by A.J. Martin (Race 6) (Intended mount a non-runner).
D.N. Russell replaced Mr D.J. O’Leary on Dont Back Down, trained by Gordon Elliot (Race 6) (Intended mount a non-runner).

200A Guinness (Q.R) Handicap Hurdle & Miss J.M. Mangan, rider of Milanphardantetime, trained by W.J. Austin, reported the Stewards’ Secretaries that her mount made three bad mistakes, lost his action and was therefore pulled up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Milanphardantetime at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have been struck into on his left fore post race.

200D Guinness Handicap & The Stewards enquired into two separate incidents on the uphill run out of the dip in this race. The first of these incidents involved Plinth, ridden by Anastasia O’Brien, placed fifth, and Vedani, ridden by L.F. Roche, unplaced.
The second incident on the turn into the straight involved Show Court, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed third, and Kingdom, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards advised P.J. Smullen and Anastasia O’Brien to ride with more care in future.
A.P. O’Brien, Master of Apprentice Jockey Anastasia O’Brien, also attended this enquiry.

J.P. O’Brien, rider of Kingdom, trained by A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly and lost his action in the straight in this race.

A.P. O’Brien, trainer of Kingdom, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to be lame post race.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Uleavemebreathless (GB), trained by A. Oliver, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran free throughout this race.

200F Arthur Guinness Handicap & The Stewards interviewed T.P. O’Shea, rider of Janna’s Jingle, placed fifth, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that T.P. O’Shea was in breach of R10 (3)(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his previous good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him.

Galway Meeting, 3rd August 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
S.A. Gray rode Skimming Stone (reserve), trained by John Joseph Murphy (Race 6).

359A Ladbrokes Loyalty Card European Breeders Fund Maiden & P.J. Smullen, rider of Leafcutter, trained by D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung in this race.

359C Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards attempted to enquire into an incident in the back straight in this race involving Shamiran, ridden by D.E. Splaine, placed second, Sweet My Lord (FR), ridden by Mr J.J. Burke, who clipped heels and was unseated, Balnaslow, ridden by D.J. Casey, unplaced, and Aranhill Chief, ridden by R.T. Dunne, who was brought down in the incident.
The Stewards referred the matter to the Turf Club for further investigation as Mr. Burke, who was receiving medical attention, was unable to attend the enquiry.

R.C. Colgan, rider of Ongenstown Lad, trained by Mrs Gillian Callaghan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled in this race.

359D Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund ‘Ahonoora’ Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from D.K. Weld, trainer of the winner Northern Rocked, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer reported that the horse returned to form today under his ideal conditions of seven furlongs on soft ground and on a track which he appears to relish.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Boots And Spurs (GB), trained by Mrs K. Burke, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room in the straight in this race.

N.G. McCullagh, rider of Ask Dad (GB), trained by J.P. Murtagh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room on the turn for home and was forced to check.

359E Get Lucky With Ladbrokes Handicap & P.J. Smullen, rider of Landsdowne, trained by Tracey Collins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not act on the course.

359F Ladbrokes Feeling Lucky Handicap & I.J. Brennan, rider of Face Value (GB), trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was inconvenienced by today’s drop in distance.

Galway Meeting, 4th August 2013

The Stewards fined the following trainer in respect of his non-runner:-.
Denis W. Cullen, trainer of May Dullea (Declared in Error) - €200.

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
Mr D. O’Connor replaced Mr R.P McNamara on Notable Graduate, trained by D.K. Weld (Race 4) Stewards’ Permission - See enquiry.
S.D. Bohan rode Mr Utah (GB) (reserve), trained by Patrick G. Kelly (Race 4).

The Stewards considered the failure of Mr R.P. McNamara to present himself at today’s meeting, which necessitated a request for a change of rider for Notable Graduate, trained by D.K. Weld, in the Trappers Inn Maiden Hurdle and the withdrawal of Ebazziyr, trained by James Leavy, from the Fr. Breen Memorial (Pro-Am) I.N.H. Flat Race, as no suitable replacement was available.
Having considered the matter the Stewards referred the case to Chief Executive of The Turf Club for further investigation.

360A Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle & T. Kelly, rider of Spot The Pro, trained by Patrick G. Kelly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung right in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Spot The Pro at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame post race.

360B Trappers Inn Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Pat O’Brien, authorised representative for D.K. Weld, trainer of Notable Graduate, regarding a request to substitute the nominated rider Mr R.P. McNamara with R. Walsh for this race.
In his evidence Mr O’Brien stated that when Mr McNamara had been booked to ride the horse, he had assured the trainer that he would be able to ride at or near the correct weight. However, Mr. McNamara notified the trainer this morning that he would be 4 lbs overweight. Given that situation, the trainer had sought a replacement rider.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards, using their discretion under Regulation 3, denied the request and requested that Mr O’Brien find a more acceptable substitution. Mr O’Brien subsequently requested to substitute Mr D. O’Connor for Mr R.P. McNamara and the Stewards allowed this request.

The Stewards fined M.O. Cullinane, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Gone Bust in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.


360E Lord Hemphill Memorial Handicap Steeplechase & R. Walsh, rider of Pires (GB), trained by A.J. Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well in the early stages of this race, but made some mistakes and found little off the bridle after the last fence.

360F Galway Shopping Centre I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into an incident approaching the turn into the straight in this race involving El Soro (FR), ridden by Mr N. M. Kelly, placed fourth, Miller Of Glanmire, ridden by Mr D. Roche, placed fifth, and Lost Book, ridden by Mr P.J. Casey, unplaced, after it appeared that El Soro (FR) was forced to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Roche was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly.
Having taken his good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (18th August).

Ms. K. Walsh, rider of Sukiyaki, trained by J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that her mount cocked his jaw and ran out.

360G Fr. Breen Memorial (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards fined P.J. Rothwell, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Merrion Row in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
