Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that his charge is a quirky type who needs things to fall into place for him. He added that the horse failed to handle the soft ground on recent runs but disappointed on his most recent start on good ground at Cork when he never travelled and jumped poorly. Since then he said that he schooled his charge over fences in an effort to sweeten him up and this, coupled with the re-application of cheekpieces today, appeared to have the desired effect. The trainer concluded by saying that the drop in class today had also helped his charge return to form.

Evidence was also heard from Noel O’Brien, Senior Turf Club National Hunt Handicapper, who stated that today’s win represented a significant improvement on the animal’s recent form.

Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Stewards also noted that this was a repeat performance of her only previous outing at Leopardstown on 20th June 2013.

Evidence was heard from Lee Smyth, which included a claim that Lisnagirl is very well behaved at home. He said that for an unknown reason she has misbehaved on her two runs and dislodged her rider on both occasions.

The Stewards gave Lee Smyth the benefit of the doubt on this occasion, but advised him that, should the horse behave in a similar manner in the future, she may be liable to a suspension.

158C Irish National Stud Gathering Handicap & The Stewards interviewed Ronald Harris and K.J. Manning, trainer and rider respectfully of Powerful Wind, regarding the late arrival of the horse to the start having been dismounted and led from about the two furlong pole which consequently caused the race to start five minutes behind schedule.

Evidence was heard from the trainer and rider concerned.

In his evidence K.J. Manning stated that he intended to take his mount down steadily to the start but the gelding became headstrong possibly as a result of the wide open area of the racecourse. He said that, in the best interests of safety, he felt it prudent to dismount and have the horse led to the start.

In his evidence Mr Harris stated that this was a surprise to him as he never encountered this problem with the gelding in the past and concurred with the riders opinion that the open space had set the horse alight.

Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.

Mr Byrnes reported that the horse was making his seasonal debut at Leopardstown. He said his instruction to the rider that day was to ride the horse handily, but the animal jumped slowly and had to be bustled up to be handy. He said the horse consequently ran too free. Since then, the horse ran over hurdles where he jumped poorly. He could offer no further explanation for any apparent improvement in form.
