Irish Racing Calendar, 12th September 2013

The following trainers were fined 200 euros in each case for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provision of Rule 194 (v) (vi):- Aidan Anthony Howard for Todds Captain (Lame) at Killarney 28th August and John G. Carr for Drumlosh Sallie (in season) at Killarney 31st August.|

Curragh Meeting, 1st September 2013

238A Sapphire European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Stewards informed Brendan W. Duke, trainer of Patty Paige, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

Roscommon Meeting, 8th July 2013

169B Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden & Ms. Joanna Morgan, trainer of Go Placidly, reported to the Officer of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 5th September that her charge was found to have a dirty nose post race.

Roscommon Meeting, 2nd September 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
Mr P.G. Murphy rode Joshella, trained by D.M. Fogarty (Race 6) Stewards Permission.
Miss N. Carberry rode Theatre King’s, trained by S.J. Mahon (Race 6) Stewards Permission.

239A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden & C.D. Hayes, rider of Tintreach Geal (GB), trained by A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount finished lame.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Tintreach Geal (GB) at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame post race.

239B Bet Online At Thetote.com Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Right Divine, trained by Peter Fahey, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

P.J. Smullen, rider of Doonard Prince, trained by Miss Elizabeth Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran keen in the early stages of this race, had little room to challenge and stayed on at the finish.

2339E Four Roads Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards received a report from Ion Hamilton, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the failure of Mr F.J. Harford, rider of Myblueeyedgirl, placed fifth, to weigh in after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated it was a complete oversight on his part.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Myblueeyedgirl from fifth place and severely cautioned Mr Harford concerning his obligations to weigh-in in future.
The amended result should now read:- First: Royal Run, Second: Mutiska, Third: Mrs Mac Veale and Fourth: Over Church Road.

E. Mullins, rider of Keith’s Delight, trained by P.A. Fahy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well to half way and disappointed thereafter.

B. Hayes, rider of Annie Dream Willdo, trained by J.P. Cahill, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up lame in this race.

239F Tote Mobile Betting Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed J.H. Culloty, trainer of Brave Soldier, in relation to the excuse offered for the non-running of his charge in this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned and from Lorcan Wyer, Turf Club Clerk of the Course.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards did not accept ground conditions as a valid excuse for non-running and fined J.H. Culloty €200.

239G Frenchpark (PRO/AM) I.N.H. & The Stewards received a report from the Mr Ion Hamilton, Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that Mr R.P. McNamara, rider of Bonobo, weighed out two pounds over his allotted weight and weighed-in four pounds overweight after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and also from Ion Hamilton.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards found Mr McNamara in breach of Rule 195 (i) and fined him €150.
The Stewards also found Mr McNamara to be in breach of Rule 231 (iii) in that he had weighed in more than 1½ lbs above the correct weight and they therefore suspended him for one race day (16th September).
The Stewards also found that Mr Hamilton had failed to report that Mr R P McNamara had weighed out at two pounds overweight. Mr Hamilton admitted this was an oversight on his part. The Stewards referred this matter to the Chief Executive of the Turf Club.

Mr R.J. Kiely, rider of Maguires Oscar, trained by Sean Aherne reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his saddle slipped in this race.

Laytown Meeting, 3rd September 2013

240D Marquess Nationwide (Q.R) Handicap & The Stewards interviewed Ms. Maria O’Brien, Authorised Representative of Donal Kinsella, trainer, and Mr J.P. McKeown, rider, concerning their request to the Stewards for permission to allow the rider carry 2 lbs overweight in this race on Happy Maverick, which had not been declared at declaration time as per the provisions of Rule 195.
Evidence was heard from Ms. O’Brien and from the rider concerned.
In his evidence Mr. McKeown admitted he accepted the ride after talking to the trainer, but he failed to let him know that he may have to carry overweight as he was not aware the Rule had changed. The rider also said that he thought he was lighter than he was when accepting the ride.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards, using their powers under Rule 198, allowed the carrying of the overweight. However, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr McKeown was in breach of Rule 195.
Having taken his good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore fined him €150.

Gowran Park Meeting, 4th September 2013

241A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund (C&G) Median Auction Race & R.P. Whelan, rider of Solar Focus, trained by J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green from the outset and hung right in the straight.

241D Kilkenny Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from S. Donohoe, trainer of the winner Last Minute Lisa, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent run at Ballinrobe on 27th August.
S. Donohoe reported that his charge failed to stay the nine furlong trip at Ballinrobe and consequently she ran today over the lesser trip of seven furlongs. He felt that this was the single contributing reason for today’s victory.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its contents.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Kalacan, trained by Mrs Denise Foster, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with accidental interference in the closing stages of this race.

Ms. Joanna Morgan, trainer of Royal Beauty, reported to the Officer of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 5th September that her charge stumbled leaving the stalls.

241F Goresbridge Handicap & B.A. Curtis, rider of Seismic, trained by John Joseph Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost his action racing downhill before the straight, but appeared to be sound post race.

L.F. Roche, rider of Farrenderry, trained by Timothy Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that the ground was too quick for his mount today.

Clonmel Meeting, 5th September 2013

242A Tipperary Claiming Race & C.R. King, rider of Mighty Whitey, trained by Noel C. Kelly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled throughout this race.

242C Tickincor Handicap & The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of the winner Authorative, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that J.A. Heffernan was in breach of R10(3)(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and R10(4) in that he had failed to give his mount time to respond.
Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for five race days (19th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 27th September.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined High Hill Beauty, trained by John Joseph Murphy, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

242F Giantsgrave Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Catherine O’Farrell, Authorised Representative for Seamus O’Farrell, trainer of the winner Strain Of Fame, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
Catherine O’Farrell reported that this horse had disappointed in his recent races and it was decided to try and change tactics today by jumping off at the rear of the field and riding a wide berth. She added that those tactics were carried out and the gelding settled and jumped well and eventually crept into the race to challenge in the closing stages. She felt that the change of tactics was the only contributing factor to today’s success.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

A. Ring, rider of Asithappens, trained by Liam Casey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount clipped heels on the downhill run and fell independently.

Kilbeggan Meeting, 6th September 2013

243B Moate Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into an incident after the second last hurdle in this race involving Luimneach Abu, ridden by M.P. Walsh, placed second, Come Follow Me, ridden by T.C. Carroll, placed fifth, and Rock County, ridden by K.C. Sexton, unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that T.C. Carroll was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly.
Having taken his clean recent record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him.

The Stewards enquired into an incident on the approach to the final hurdle in this race involving the winner Formal Bid, ridden by D.J. Condon, Alubari (GB), ridden by D.E. Splaine, placed fourth, and Come Follow Me, ridden by T.C. Carroll, placed fifth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that D.E. Splaine was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having taken his clean recent record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him.

P. Townend, rider of Ironmill Lad, trained by David Harry Kelly, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount missed the break, became detached early on and was unable to get competitive thereafter.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Ironmill Lad at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

William J. Fitzpatrick, trainer of Sinntani, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 9th September that his charge missed the break, was hampered and that the horse’s reins subsequently broke.

243C Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Mares Hurdle & P. Townend, rider of Dysart Dancer, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount burst a blood vessel. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

243F Tote Mobile Betting Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed P.T. Enright, rider of the winner The Book Thief, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P.T. Enright was in breach of R 10(3)(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his clean recent record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him.

D.J. Condon, rider of Pat Garrett trained by Noel Meade, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost his two front shoes during the running of this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Pat Garrett at the request of the Stewards and reported that the animal lost his two front shoes, but otherwise was found to be post race normal.

B.J. Geraghty, rider of Drumlister, trained by A.L.T. Moore, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well until making a mistake at the fifth last fence in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Drumlister at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

243G Athlone I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards attempted to enquire into the falls of Do Try Dolly, ridden by Mr J.J. O’Neill, and Queen Of Thecastle, ridden by Mr P.S. Kiely, before the road crossing at the stable yard, but were unable to do so as both riders were receiving medical attention.
The Stewards therefore referred this matter to the Turf Club for further investigation.

Leopardstown Meeting, 7th September 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.

J.P. O’Brien replaced J.A. Heffernan on Kingsbarns, trained by A.P. O’Brien (Race 7) Stewards Permission – Original Mount Non Runner.

244A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & G.F. Carroll, rider of Grandma’s Hands, trained by A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room in the straight in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Shell House, trained by A.P. O’Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame behind post race.

244E Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes & J.P. O’Brien, rider of Kingsbarns, trained by A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost his action and was eased in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Kingsbarns at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

244F Ladbrokes Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Majestic Jasmine, trained by John M. Oxx, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be showing signs of being in season post race.

John M. Oxx, trainer of Majestic Jasmine, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 9th September that his charge was found to be in season post race.

244H Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund ‘Petingo’ Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Call Me Bubbles (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

Dundalk Meeting, 8th September 2013

245C Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Median Auction Maiden & The Stewards requested a report from Niall Amond, authorised representative for Mrs John Harrington, trainer of the winner Persian Caliph, regarding the apparent improvement in form of her charge compared with the horse’s most recent form.
Mr Amond reported that the horse had disappointed on his previous run and was eased down in the closing stages after the rider felt that something was amiss. However, having been checked out post race, the trainer could find no apparent reason for the poor performance and attributed it to running the horse too quickly after the previous outing. He was of the opinion that the horse’s longer break prior to today’s run had brought about an improved performance.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Stewards informed Patrick J. Flynn, trainer of Dans Girl, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Silver Gauntlet, trained by D.K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be slightly lame post race.

245F(i) Friday Horse Racing Returns 27th September Handicap (Division One) & R.P. Cleary, rider of Ledwidge, trained by Lester Winters, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount lost his action and was eased in the closing stages of this race.

245F(ii) Friday Horse Racing Returns 27th September Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards requested a report from Garvan Donnelly, trainer of the winner Equation Of Time (GB), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer reported that the first time application of a hood and a liking for today’s fast surface had, in his opinion, brought about today’s improved performance.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

245G Crowne Plaza Race & Stay Handicap & The Stewards enquired into two incidents of possible interference in the closing stages of this race. The first incident involved the winner Star Power, ridden by K.J. Manning, Carvelas, ridden by S. Foley placed second, Passion Planet, ridden by G.F. Carroll placed fifth, and Flight Of The Saker (USA), ridden by F. Lynch, unplaced.
The second incident involved Star Power and Carvelas.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that, while interference had taken place, it was accidental in nature.
The Stewards therefore made no alteration to the Judge’s placing and took no further action.
