Turf Club Calendar Notices - Week 25

Roscommon Meeting, 11th June 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: C.D. Maxwell rode Stonemaster (reserve), trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes (sixth race); D.J. Condon replaced J.L. Cullen (Stewards permission) on Templemills, trained by Mr. Thomas Cleary (seventh race) and T.P. Treacy replaced R.M. Moran (Stewards permission) on Code Dancer, trained by Mr. Patrick Carey (seventh race).

139A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund (C&G) Maiden & The Stewards enquired into an incident about one furlong from the finish involving the winner Our Conor, ridden by G.F. Carroll, The Ring Is King, ridden by F.M. Berry, placed third, and Leyland, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed fourth, after it appeared that the latter had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.   

139B Ladies Day At Roscommon On July 9th Handicap & A.P. Thornton, rider of Forbidden City, trained by Mr. Muredach Kelly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that he felt the ground was too heavy for his mount.

The Stewards fined Mr. Garry Bernard Caldwell, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Dooley Doyle, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

G.F. Carroll, rider of Hello Man, trained by Mr. S.M. Duffy, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount did not handle today’s ground.

139G(i) Roscommon Beginners Steeplechase (Division One) & N.P. Madden, rider of Marshim, trained by Mr. W. Power, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount made a respiratory noise in running.

139G(ii) Roscommon Beginners Steeplechase (Division Two) & The Stewards fined Mr. G.T. Lynch, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Western Star, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

Fairyhouse Meeting, 13th June 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: P.J. Smullen rode Sughera (reserve), trained by Mr. A.J. Martin (fifth race).

141A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving Rose Garden, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed fourth, Tiger Stripes (GB), ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed fifth,
All Ablaze, ridden by R.P. Cleary, and Lindenhurst, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, both unplaced, after it appeared that the latter suffered slight interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference caused was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

141B Jogforjockeys.ie Race & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Among Equals (GB), trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, was found to be post race normal.

141C Fairyhouse.ie Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Phils Wish, trained by Mr. John C. McConnell, was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

Mr. J. Larkin, trainer of Chillie Billie (GB), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge made a noise in running and was therefore eased by the rider.

141D(ii) Ratoath Handicap (Division Two) & S.A. Gray, rider of Ask The Farmer, trained by Mr. D. Broad, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount suffered interference and stumbled due to general bunching shortly after leaving the stalls.

141E Special Rates For Groups Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving the winner Shamooda, ridden by J.P. Murtagh, Habesh, ridden by G.F. Carroll, and Shabra Emperor, ridden by L.F. Roche, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the interference caused was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Security Breach, trained by Mr. A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung throughout this race.

141F Wednesday Evening Racing At Fairyhouse Maiden & J.P. O’Brien, rider of Warwick Avenue, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green and  ducked both left and right away from the whip in the closing stages.

Leopardstown Meeting, 14th June 2012

142A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & A representative for Mr. A.P. O’Brien, trainer of Delight, reported to a Turf Club Official that the horse lost a shoe when leaving the stalls.

142B Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund (C&G) Maiden & S. Foley, rider of Ballyorban, trained by Mr. K.J. Condon, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became upset in the stalls and lost his action in this race.

142C Ballycorus Stakes & The Stewards enquired into an incident about one and half furlongs from the finish involving the winner Alanza, ridden by J.P. Murtagh, Glor Na Mara, ridden by K.J. Manning, placed third, and Rodrigo De Torres (GB), ridden by C. O’ Donoghue, placed fifth, after it appeared that the latter received a check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action.  

142E Original Rude Boys Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards enquired into the late arrival to the start of Casela Park, trained by Ms. Jaclyn Tyrrell.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Eamon Tyrrell Jnr, authorised representative for the trainer, who stated it was noted that G.P. Halpin, rider, was not wearing gloves when mounted and it was felt that he should ride the filly very steady to the start as she can be very free. He added that when attempting to leave the parade ring another runner ahead of him became fractious and Casela Park had to remain for a short period before eventually leaving the parade ring and proceeding steadily to the start.
Having considered the circumstances, the Stewards took no further action.
Mr. Joseph M. McGrath, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final 150 yards involving Diamond Daze, ridden by R. Dawson, placed second, and Casela Park, ridden by G.P. Halpin, placed third.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned and from Mr. Edward Lynam, trainer of Diamond Daze.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R. Dawson had ridden carelessly. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for two race days (28th and 29th June).
Mr. Eamon Tyrrell Jnr. representing Ms. Jaclyn Tyrrell, trainer of Casela Park, also attended this inquiry. Mr. Joseph M. McGrath, Acting Steward, absented himself from this inquiry.

Clonmel Meeting, 15th June 2012

143ACluain Meala Maiden Hurdle & D.N. Russell, rider of Beabus Jack, trained by Mr. C. Bynes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount continually hung badly and was pulled up in the straight. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Beabus Jack was found to have a haematoma on his right hind quarter post race.

B.J. Geraghty, rider of Cuteasafox, trained by Mr. Michael Hourigan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount weakened quickly racing downhill to the straight, was carried slightly wide and was pulled up.

143B Valley Of Honey Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into an incident between the final hurdle and the winning post on the first circuit involving Special Tiara (GB), ridden by P.T. Enright, placed second, Jack The Pirate, ridden by B. Hayes, placed third, Ballyliffin Lad, ridden by R.T. Dunne, placed fourth, and Red Sparky, ridden by A.P. Thornton, unplaced, after it appeared that the latter ran short of room on the rails and had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that any interference caused was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

B. Hayes, rider of Jack The Pirate, trained by Mr. J.P. Cahill, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his saddle slipped early on, but that it eventually corrected itself. He also reported that his mount ran free and hung in this race.

143C Funky Friday BBQ Evening Handicap Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Mazagee (FR), trained by Mr. C. Byrnes, was found to be coughing post race.

Miss K.J. Harrison, rider of Black Belt, trained by Mrs C. Harrison, reported to a Turf Club Official that her mount did not handle today’s ground and was therefore pulled up.

143D Thorney Bridge Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Barry T. Murphy, trainer of the winner Charleville (GB), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous runs at Clonmel on the 5th April and at Ballinrobe on the 1st May 2012 when the gelding was beaten 31 lengths and 85 lengths respectively.
Mr. Murphy reported that his charge returned to racing at Clonmel after a seven month layoff and made some mistakes in that race. He said that the horse’s following run at Ballinrobe was on lively enough ground and possibly over a trip further than the animal requires. He said he felt reverting back to two miles and a 110 yards with his charge, plus the soft underfoot conditions, had contributed to today’s success.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.  

R.M. Power, rider of Celtic Cailin, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground.

143G(i) Suir Valley I.N.H. Flat Race (Division One) & The Stewards interviewed Mr. J.E. Burns, rider of Desert Shore, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Burns was in breach of both Regulation 10 (2)(f) and Regulation 10 (3) in that he had used his whip excessively and without giving his mount time to respond.
Having taken his record into account, the Stewards cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

The Stewards received a report from Mr. J.P. McKeown, rider of Rory’s Brother, that his mount stumbled and fell independently in the latter stages of this race.
The Stewards also received a report from Miss K. O’Farrell, rider, that her mount was taking a strong hold racing to the bottom of the hill on the first circuit when the filly clipped heels and fell through no fault of any other runner.
Having considered the reports, the Stewards noted their content.

143G(ii) Suir Valley I.N.H. Flat Race (Division Two) & The Stewards interviewed Mr. J.J. Slevin, rider of Regal One, placed second, concerning his use of the whip.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Slevin was in breach of both Regulation 10 2 (f) and Regulation 10 (3) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and without giving his mount time to respond.
Having taken his record into account, the Stewards cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

Navan Meeting, 15th June 2012

144E Navan Supporters Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages involving Amour Fou, ridden by J.P. Murtagh, placed second, Till Dawn, ridden by M.C. Hussey, placed fifth, and Lazarian, ridden by I.J. Brennan, unplaced, after it appeared that Amour Fou and Till Dawn both suffered interference.
 Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned I.J. Brennan to ride with more care in future.  

Limerick Meeting, 16th June 2012

145D(i) Twilight BBQ Handicap (Division One) & The Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final furlong involving the winner Topadee, ridden by D.M. Grant, and The Hamptons, ridden by F.M. Berry, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Ceol Na Mara (GB), trained by Mr. Augustine Leahy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran out of racing room in the straight.

145D(ii) Twilight BBQ Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the straight involving the winner Bubbly Bellini, ridden by I.J. Brennan, San Jose City, ridden by J.F. Egan, placed second, and Refuse To Sell, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Mr. Adrian McGuinness, Master of I.J. Brennan.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that I.J. Brennan had ridden carelessly (Rule 214) and they therefore suspended him for two race days (3rd and 4th July).

The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong involving Under Review, ridden by R.P. Whelan, placed fourth, and Whatyoumaycallit, ridden by L.F. Roche, unplaced, after it appeared that the latter had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R.P. Whelan had ridden carelessly (Rule 214).
Having taken his record into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

Mr. Lawrence Walshe, trainer of Harrier Reef, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 18th June that his charge was found to have a burst blood vessel following an endoscopic examination post race.

145E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap & R.P. Cleary, rider of I’m Sheikra, trained by Mr. Brendan W. Duke, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost her action in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that I’m Sheikra was found to be lame on her right hind leg post race.

145F Greenmount Apprentice Handicap & P.C. O’Donnell, rider of Killdunne, trained by Mr. Michael Winters, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and hung off the final bend.

145G www.limerickraces.ie Handicap & The Stewards granted permission for this race to be started  by tape in the interest of safety, due to the close proximity of the first bend from the start.

Cork Meeting, 17th June 2012

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Niall O’Callaghan for Fog In The Bog (ground conditions).

146E Golden Olive Maiden & The Stewards received a report from Mr. P.L. Malone, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, which stated that R.A. Doyle, rider of Naughty, had attempted to weigh out without a back protector (Rule 198).
Evidence was heard from Mr. Malone and from the rider concerned (in the presence of Mr. Eamon O’Donovan, authorised representative of Mr. John Joseph Murphy, trainer and Master of R.A. Doyle).
In his evidence Mr. Malone stated that R.A. Doyle had attempted to weigh out without a back protector.
In his evidence R.A. Doyle admitted this, but stated that he simply forgot to put on his back protector after getting out of the sauna and rushing to weigh out. He stated that once he put on the back protector, he could still weigh out at the correct weight.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R.A. Doyle was in breach of Rule 198 (v) and they therefore suspended him for seven race days (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 11th July). The Stewards also instructed him to consult with Dr. Adrian McGoldrick Turf Club Medical Officer, concerning his diet and correct weight management.

Mr. A. Oliver, trainer of Firethorn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge may not have handled today’s ground. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Firethorn spread a plate in running but was otherwise found to be post race normal

146H Kerry Group Race Day Handicap & The Stewards interviewed C.P. Hoban, rider of Our Nana Rose, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that C.P. Hoban was in breach of Regulation 10 2 (b) in that he had continued to use his whip when his chance of winning or being placed had clearly gone.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for two race days (3rd and 4th July).
