Mr. C.F. Swan  -  “General Wellington” Prohibited Substance

Limerick, 9th November, 2008.

The Referrals Committee, Judge Tony Hunt (in the Chair), Mr. J.R. Craigie and Mr. Peter N. Reynolds, met in the Turf Club Offices, The Curragh, Co. Kildare, on Monday 22nd December, 2008, to consider a report from BHP Laboratories in Limerick to the effect that the biological fluid sample taken from “General Wellington” following its win in the Glenview Stud (QR) Beginners Chase at Limerick on 9th November, 2008, was found to contain Procaine which under Rule 20 (v) is a Prohibited Substance.  Evidence was heard from Mr. C.F. Swan, Trainer, and Mr. S.W.D. McIlveen, Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

Having considered the evidence the Committee fined Mr. Swan €200 for a breach of Rule 148 (ii) and disqualified “General Wellington” from first place and ordered the record be amended to read as follows:-

First:  Bellflower Boy
Second: Keep Me
Third:  Colours Of Autumn
Fourth: Publicize

The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Sean Barry, Registrar, I.N.H.S. Committee.
