A. Stronge - “Carsonstown Bridge” Prohibited Substance
Newry (H) Point to Point, 1st May, 2010.
The Referrals Committee, Mr. T.L. Crawford (in the Chair), Mr. C.P. Magnier and Mr. T.D. Osborne, met in the Stewards Room at Downpatrick Racecourse on Sunday 8th August, 2010, to consider a report from BHP Laboratories in Limerick which stated that the biological fluid sample taken from “Carsonstown Bridge” following that horse’s win in the Maiden Race for five year old Geldings (Division One) at Newry Point to Point on 1st May, 2010, was found to contain Phenylbutazone and Oxyphenbutazone, which under Rule 20 (v) and Regulation R14 are Prohibited Substances. Evidence was heard from Mr. A. Stronge, Handler, and Mr. John Johnston, Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
The Committee accepted that Mr. Stronge had accidentally administered the medication within the recommended withdrawal time. The Committee were also satisfied that Mr. Stronge was also guilty of carelessness for not having an up to date Medicines Register as required under the Guidelines on the use of Veterinary Medicines and they therefore fined him €250. In addition the Committee disqualified “Carsonstown Bridge” from first place and ordered the records be amended to read as follows:-
First: Linnel
Second: Gussy Duffin
Third: Euro Wizard
The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Josh Byrne, Registrar, I.N.H.S. Committee.
