Cleary, placed second, where it appeared W.J. Lee had to check his mount. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence W.J. Leonard, unplaced, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence J.A. K.J. Leonard stated that he did suffer slight interference and added that it becomes very congested at that point of the track. He further stated that he could see Golden Freckle was hanging badly right. Lee stated that he was running onto the heels of the horse in front of him and edged out to keep off heels and to come with his challenge. G.M. Ryan stated that he was running on one paced when he received a bump from his right. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that Final Gesture had caused interference to Amusement and as a result of this interference had improved its finishing position. As a consequence, the Raceday Stewards reversed the placings of the fifth and sixth placed horse and amended the result to read as follows:
Amended Result:
First: Thunder Roll
Second: Enfranchise
Third: Echoes In Rain
Fourth: Perfect Portrait
Fifth: Amusement
Sixth: Final Gesture
Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that W.J. Lee was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden Improperly, and having considered his record in this regard, they suspended him for 9 racedays.
