The Appeals Body, Mr N B Wachman (Chairman), Mr Peter Reynolds and Mr Noel McCaffrey convened at the Offices of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board on Friday, 28 June to consider the appeal of Andrew Slattery (Rider) against the decision of the Raceday Stewards at Limerick on Wednesday, 12 June 2024.

On the day, following the running of the Big Boss Events Handicap, the Raceday Stewards found Mr Slattery, rider of Killeemore Lad in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard they suspended him for four racedays.

The grounds of appeal lodged by Mr Slattery was that the Raceday Stewards on the day erred in their decision.

At the Appeal Hearing, evidence was heard from Mr Slattery. The Appeals Body also watched a recording of the race.

In his evidence, Mr Slattery stated that his horse hung severely to the right for six furlongs until he got to the rail. Mr Slattery explained that he had strong contact with his mount, and he took every precaution to prevent interference, however, his mount was difficult and didn’t respond to his attempts at straightening him.

Having considered the evidence, the Appeals Body were of the opinion that Mr Slattery took all reasonable precautions to avoid interference and allowed the appeal.
