Limerick Meeting, 28th November 2012

364A Follow LRC On Facebook Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into possible interference after the second last hurdle involving Back Off Mate, ridden by B.M. Cash, placed third, and Carhue, ridden by D.J. Condon, placed fourth, after it appeared that Carhue suffered interference and clipped heels.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Carhue did suffer interference caused by Back Off Mate. However, the Stewards could not be satisfied that Back Off Mate had improved his finishing position in relation to Carhue as a result of this interference and therefore made no alteration to the Judge’s placings.
The Stewards were however of the opinion that B.M. Cash was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having taken his good record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for two race days (13th and 15th December).

364C Limerick Racecourse Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards received a report from Ion Hamilton, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that A.E. Lynch, rider of Beckwith Star, placed fourth, weighed in 4lbs light after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Henry de Bromhead, trainer of Beckwith Star.
In his evidence Mr de Bromhead stated that he had mistakenly forgotten to put a lead bag on his charge and found it back in the stable after the race when he was notified of a problem at scales. Mr de Bromhead apologised to the Stewards for his error.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards acting under the terms of Rule 231, disqualified Beckwith Star from fourth place and amended the result to read as follows:-
First: Liszt; Second: Thepartysover (GB); Third Maguire’s Glen; Fourth Last Time D’albain.
Furthermore, the Stewards were of the opinion that Henry de Bromhead was in breach of Rule 148, in that he is responsible for everything connected with the running of the horse. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence B.F. Cawley stated that his instructions were to settle his mount towards the back and slowly creep into the race as the horse had run very free in his previous race at Limerick when failing to get home. He said that although he rode his mount towards the rear, he still found the horse very difficult to settle and at times ran close to the heels of those in front of him. He continued by saying that his mount made a mistake on the first circuit and again at the third last hurdle and that he steered the horse very wide turning for home in order to avoid traffic problems. He concluded by saying that his mount ran on well in the closing stages and achieved his best possible placing.
In his evidence Mr Coakley confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He explained that his charge is a very difficult horse to settle, that he runs very free and is not the most confident of jumpers. He added that the horse had run very free in his previous race and that today’s tactics were in his opinion the best way to get the horse to settle and see out the trip.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Alpha And Omega was found to be post race normal.
