The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Longhouse Force, ridden by Mr E. Mahon, and trained by Brian M. McMahon. Evidence was heard from the rider and from Mr. John Staunton, authorised representative for the trainer concerned. Mr E. Mahon, stated that his instructions were to settle his mount, get it breathing and to do the best he could. He said his mount jumped well before choking from the fourth last to the winning post, but accepted that he had not furnished this report as required under the provisions of Rule 213. Mr. Staunton, confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He said his charge has wind problems and was wearing a tongue tie in an attempt to address this issue. He further added that the animal ran its best race to date and is also a tricky individual. He concluded by stating that the animal had gurgled on its two previous runs and accepted that this was not reported under the provisions of Rule 213. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer, who stated that Longhouse Force was clinically abnormal post race. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence and in particular the evidence proferred that the animal had gurgled previously which was not reported, the Stewards referred the matter to the Referrals Committee for consideration.
