P. Townend, rider of Bacardys (FR) trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount never travelled during this race.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Bacardys (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Longacre Square, trained by John Joseph Hanlon, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal while noting a small wound on the medial left hind heel. Samples were taken for analysis.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Boston Hill trained by Kieran P Egan was noted to have blood at both nostrils post race.
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Longacre Square, ridden by Shane Fenelon, and trained by John Joseph Hanlon. Evidence was heard from the trainers representative and rider concerned. Rachel O'Neill, Authorised representative of John Joseph Hanlon, trainer, stated that the rider was instructed to jump off mid division, get the horse jumping, get him into a rhythm and finish as best as capable. She added that their charge was small in stature but retained its ability having won two hurdles races previously for another trainer. On viewing the video she felt that the rider should have been closer to the main group but may not have finished a whole lot nearer. Shane Fenelon, rider, confirmed the riding instructions and explained his riding while viewing the video recording of the race. He said that his mount had fallen at Tramore, got around over fences here the last day on the inside track but today was jumping larger obstacles. He pointed out that his mount got deep into some fences and was novicey. He realised after half way that he was not going to be in contention and rode to get him home by squeezing and pushing from that point. He confirmed that he had ridden to instructions. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Longacre Square was post race normal and noted a small wound on the medial left hind heel. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the trainers explanation as given by his Authorised representative. In relation to the rider, the Stewards were of the opinion that Shane Fenelon was in breach of Rule 212 A (ii) by riding his horse in such a way that the horse cannot be seen to be the subject of a genuine attempt to obtain from the horse timely, real and substantial efforts to achieve the best possible place. Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Shane Fenelon for ten racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee. .
020B Jump Into January H'cap S'chaseAt the request of the Stewards, B. Hayes, rider of Nelly's Money, trained by Robert Tyner, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran too keen early on in this race.
The Stewards requested a report from A.J.Martin, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Sil Ver Klass (FR), placed first, as compared with its recent run at Cork on the 8th January where he finished last of eight runners beaten 32.75 lengths by the winner Street Value. Ms Cathy O'Leary, Authorised representative of A.J. Martin, trainer, reported that their charge did not get home or jump great in the heavy ground conditions at Cork whereas today the sounder underfoot conditions, the shorter distance of the race and his fluent jumping all contributed to the return to form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Nelly's Money, ridden by B. Hayes, and trained by Robert Tyner with reference to the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the trainer's representative and rider concerned. Mary Tyner, Authorised representative of Robert Tyner, stated that the intention was to jump off towards the rear of the field as the filly can be too free, creep into the race as she races best when on the bridle and get her to finish out her race. She added that their charge had failed to get home on most of her runs and different tactics had been tried in the past. On viewing the video she felt that having run free early on today, the filly probably blew up but stayed on again in the closing stages. She expressed her satisfaction with the ride. B. Hayes, rider, confirmed the riding instructions and stated that a good jump at the first fence set the filly alight and she ran too keen after that. He added that he took a wide route in the straight having walked the track earlier but when he let the filly down to run between the final two fences, she just kept going at the same pace. He knew he was holding onto nothing but she still ran on from the back of the last fence. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations of both persons.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Nelly's Money, trained by Robert Tyner, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal but coughed twice. Samples were taken for analysis.
