280D Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) H'cap

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Four Blondes, trained by Ross O'Sullivan, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving Nightcliff, ridden by D. McMonagle, placed sixth, Four Blondes, ridden by S. Foley, unplaced, and Byzantine Empress (GB), ridden by M.P. Sheehy, placed second, where it appeared Nightcliff had to take a check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D. McMonagle stated that he had to take a precautionary check off heels when Byzantine Empress switched out. M.P. Sheehy stated that a gap opened and he quickened into it. He further added that he thought he was clear of Nightcliff when he switched out. S. Foley stated that his mount was emptying and horses just quickened up around him. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found M.P. Sheehy was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly, and having considered his clean record in this regard the Raceday Stewards suspended him for two racedays.

D. McMonagle, rider of Nightcliff, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount took a precautinary check.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving King Thistle (GB), ridden by P. McGettigan, placed fifth, South Shore Island, ridden by J.J.G. Ryan, placed second, and Gazelle D'or, ridden by D.E. Sheehy, placed third, where it appeared the three horses came close together. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. P. McGettigan stated that he corrected his mount immediately as he started to wander. J.J.G. Ryan stated that he struck his mount and he stayed straight. He further added that as he struck him a second time he shifted right but felt he had corrected him as quickly as possible. D.E. Sheehy stated that it got a small bit tight from a furlong out but it opened up once he gave a shout. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted. J.P. Murtagh accompanied P. McGettigan in this enquiry.

S. Foley, rider of Adrenaline Rush, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount jumped badly left from the stalls.

Siobhan Rutledge, rider of Gateway Arch, trained by Joseph Anthony Murray, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that her mount jumped left from the stalls.

J.J.G. Ryan, rider of South Shore Island, trained by M.D. O'Callaghan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran green when he hit the front.

The Raceday Stewards enquired under the provisions of Rule 212, into the running and riding of Red Charlie (USA), ridden by L.F. Roche, and trained by Emmet Mullins. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. L.F. Roche stated that his instructions were to bounce out wherever comfortable and come with one run in the straight. He further added that his mount was hampered at the start and hit a ridge at the two furlong pole. He concluded by stating that his mount just ran on one paced in the straight. Emmet Mullins confirmed the instructions given. He further added that he was disappointed with how his charge ran. The Raceday Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Red Charlie didn't have two hind shoes but was otherwise post race normal. Samples were taken for further analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the explanation of the trainer and rider regarding Rule 212, however, they reminded L.F. Roche of his obligations under Rule 213 to report anything which may have effected his running and reminded Emmet Mullins of his obligations under Regulation 16 regarding running his charge without hind shoes.
