A.J. Slattery, rider of Mount Ruapehu trained by J.F.Grogan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran green.

The Stewards reviewed the start of this race where it appeared that the set of stalls furtherest from the running rail had opened momentarily later than the nearer set of stalls. Having viewed the recording of the start and considered the matter, the Stewards were satisfied that the faulty action of the starting stalls had not materially prejudiced the chances of the runners drawn from stalls ten through to nineteen and decided that no further action was warranted. The Stewards requested Mr J.R. Banahan, IHRB Starter, to check that the starting stalls were in full working order prior to loading horses into the stalls for the second race.

156B Club Eirne Racing Again H'cap

L.F. Roche, rider of Rockbury Lad (GB) trained by M.D. O'Callaghan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount missed the kick from the flag start.

The Stewards enquired into the malfunction of the outside set of stalls which opened momentarily slower than the inside set of stalls resulting in a false start being called by Mr J.R. Banahan, IHRB Starter and the race subsequently being started by a flag start. Mr Banahan stated that he observed that the outside set of stalls had opened slower than the inside set of stalls and called a false start. He confirmed that following a similar happening in the first race being brought to his attention by the Stewards, the electrical leads were changed and the stalls were checked three times, this test being recorded, and no malfunction was observed. He was satisfied that the stalls had trialled perfectly and loaded the runners for this race. He added that the stalls malfunctioned and a false start was called. A further trial was carried out and the malfunction was observed again. Consequently the Stewards granted permission for this race to be started by flag. Mr Peter O'Reilly, HRI Starting Stalls technician confirmed Mr Banahan's account of events. He confirmed that the starting stalls were serviced prior to the start of the season and checked again as a protocol prior to the start of any raceday. He informed the Stewards that the two batteries were showing full power but the recurring problem was now addressed by replacing these batteries and the connecting lead. He was satisfied that the malfunction had now been addressed and rectified and therefore suitable for use for the remainder of the meeting. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards referred this matter to the CEO of the IHRB for further investigation.

The Stewards received a report from Mr J.R. Banahan, IHRB Starter, in relation to a malfunction in the starting stalls when tested prior to this race. Having considered the report and observed a recording of the trial, the Stewards in consultation with Mr Banahan, granted permission for this race to be started by flag.

Doyle, Universal Focus (GER), ridden by W.J. Lee and Draco Pulchrac, ridden by C.T.
