082B Adare Manor Opportunity H'cap H'dle

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Real Empire (GB), trained by John Joseph Hanlon, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be lame on his right hind post race.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into the first approach to the starter involving Conor Clarke, rider of Mount Frisco, T.E. O'Connor, rider of Bayou Belle, N.J. Ryan, rider of Mickey Cohen, F. Brickley, rider of T Or Coffey, P. Hanlon, rider of Real Empire (GB), B.P. Kennedy, rider of Circus Act and H.E. Sexton, rider of Give Her Hollie where it appeared all horses broke into a canter before the flag wad dropped. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Conor Clarke stated his mount is very keen and on his toes. T.E. O'Connor stated that he didn't want to get left behind. N.J. Ryan stated that he tried to take back but his mount followed the horses in front of him. F. Brickley stated that he didn't want to get left behind. P. Hanlon stated that his mount broke into a canter despite his best efforts. B.P. Kennedy stated that at no point was he ever going forward. H.E. Sexton accepted his mount broke into a canter but he knew the race was never about to start and he never made any effort to go forward. Having viewed the recording of the riders approach and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that all riders were in breach of Rule 208(iii)(b) and Rule 208(v)(b). Having considered the clean records of Conor Clarke, T.E. O'Connor, N.J. Ryan, F. Brickley, P. Hanlon and B.P. Kennedy in this regard, they suspended all riders for one raceday. Having considered H.E. Sexton's record (second offence), they suspended him for one raceday. In arriving at a penalty for H.E. Sexton, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that he had made some effort to co-operate with the starter and in the circumstances were satisfied that a one raceday suspension was appropriate.
