Irish Racing Calendar, 20th December 2012

Turf Club and I.N.H.S. Committee

The Licensing Committee Mrs. C. Corballis (in the Chair), Mr. T. Rudd and Mr. T.L. Crawford met at The Offices of The Turf Club, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on Thursday, 29th November, 2012 and considered a breach of the conditions under which a licence was granted in relation to insurance.  A severe warning and fine of €2,000 was issued to the following Trainer: Patrick Neville.

The following trainer was fined €200 for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provision of Rule 194 (v) (vi):- Noel Meade for Fickle Fortune (distressed) at Cork on 9th December 2012.

S. Wilson, trainer of Once Bitten, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 13th December that his charge has had a wind operation since his last run at Down Royal on 5th November 2012.

 C. Moore, trainer of Echo Knight, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 13th December that his charge has had a wind operation since his last run at Dundalk on 27th August 2012.

Thurles Meeting, 29th November 2012

365B Killinan (C&G) Beginners Steeplechase & G.T. Lynch, trainer of Letter Of Credit, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 13th December that his charge was found to have a blood disorder post race.

 Dundalk Meeting, 12th December 2012

The Stewards, using their powers under Rule 29, granted permission for Lorcan Wyer, Turf Club Official, to act as Starter for this meeting.

330A Christmas Party Packages At Dundalk Stadium Handicap & F. Lynch, rider of Hi Emperor, trained by Mr. David Marnane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was slowly away from stalls and as a consequence lost considerable ground.

330D(i) Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Handicap (Division One) & F. Lynch, rider of King’s Jester, trained by Mr. J.J. Lambe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount is a 10 year old who was having his first run on the flat in over a year. He also reported that the horse can be a tricky ride and that he dropped him out and kidded him along. He said that the horse did not get a clear run as the pace quickened in the home straight, but that he stayed on one pace past beaten horses in the latter stages.

J.R. Hagan, trainer of Gagnant, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to be lame behind following a veterinary examination post race.

330D(ii) Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards interviewed J.P. Murtagh, rider of Diamond Daze, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that J.P. Murtagh was in breach of Regulation 10 4 in that he had failed to give his mount time to respond.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (4th January 2013).

The Stewards informed Garvan Donnelly, trainer of Samollie, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

C.P. Hoban, rider of Minor Choisir, trained by Paul W. Flynn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost her action and was therefore eased.

330F Christmas Party Nights At Dundalk Stadium Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Tracey Collins, trainer of the winner Roe Deer, regarding the apparent improvement in form of her charge compared with the horses most recent run at Dundalk on the 12th July when he finished 9th of 10 runners.
Ms Collins reported that her charge had good form prior to this run, having finished second and third. However, she said the horse disappointed her last time and ran well below form. She said nothing untoward came to light when she checked the horse out at home subsequently so she decided to give him a break and freshen him up. She was of the opinion that any apparent improvement in form could be attributed to this.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving Prince Of Fashion, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, and Fosters Cross, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, after it appeared that Fosters Cross suffered interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.P. McDonogh was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden improperly.
Having taken his good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (4th January 2013). 

The Stewards fined Mrs Denise Foster, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Rockazar (GB) in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

330G Christmas Race & Dine Packages Maiden & B.A. Curtis, rider of Sterling Cooper, trained by P.J. Rothwell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly in the straight.

Gowran Park Meeting, 13th December 2012

331A Gowran Park Golf Membership From 749 Euros 3-y-o Hurdle & A representative for Mr. Peter Casey, trainer of Hello Humpfrey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that the horse was found to have lost two shoes in running.

331B Race That Stops A County – Jan 24th Thyestes 2013 Maiden Hurdle & T.C. Carroll, rider of Crowned Supreme, trained by P. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that he settled his mount in the early stages of the race, but the horse found nothing in the straight.

 G.T. Lynch, trainer of Letter Of Credit, reported to a Turf Club Official that his charge was found to have a blood disorder post race.

331D Students Day At Gowran Park 2013 – Tuesday April 9th Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed P.T. Enright, rider of Written Inthestars, trained by Robert Tyner, concerning his riding in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that his mount had disputed the lead early on and by the time he got to the straight the horse was very tired.  He had not been hard on the horse because of that and in the circumstances he felt he had taken all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. &
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Written Inthestars was found to be post race normal.  &
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.   

 P.T. Enright, rider of Written Inthestars, trained by Robert Tyner, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became very tired in the closing stages of this race.

 S.G. McDermott, rider of Mista Wabbit Man (GB), trained by R. Donohoe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a noise in running.

331E Gowran Park Thanks All Its Customers In 2012 Mares Handicap Hurdle &
The Stewards granted permission for Mini Vic, trained by Miss Elizabeth Doyle, to run without a tongue-tie in this race.     

 C.D. Maxwell, rider of Ocean Bright (USA), trained by Dermot Anthony McLoughlin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount weakened very quickly and was therefore pulled up.

 P.T. Enright, rider of Knock Beauty, trained by Robert Tyner, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount changed legs and stumbled and was therefore pulled up.

331F Gowran Park Racing Club 2013 Maiden Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Master Oisin, trained by Stephen Kelly, lost a shoe in running and was found to be lame post race.

Dundalk Meeting, 14th December 2012

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:- M.C.Hussey rode Wellmarked (reserve), trained by P.G. Fahey (Race 5).

332A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Stewards received a report from Ms. Joan Taylor, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, that she was unable to positively identify Annagh Haven, trained by Michael Mulvany, from the markings contained in the passport presented for this horse. She was also unable to locate any microchip.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned.  
 Having considered the evidence, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Annagh Haven in accordance with Rule 90(v) and referred the matter to the Turf Club for further investigation.

332B Floodlit Friday Nights At Dundalk Rated Race & R.P. Whelan, rider of Cash Or Casualty, trained by Damian Joseph English, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly in the straight.

 B.A. Curtis, rider of Bualadh Croi, trained by Daniel Miley, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran very free throughout this race.

 W332D(ii) Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Package Handicap (Division Two) &
The Stewards informed Thomas McGivern, trainer of John’s Legend, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.    

 M.C. Hussey, rider of Fast On, trained by Seamus Fahey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

332E Dundalk Stadium – Light Up You Night Handicap & The Stewards received a report from W. Fleming, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that I.J. Brennan, rider of My Good Brother, weighed in 1.7lbs overweight.  
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
 Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that I.J. Brennan was in breach of Rule 231. Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities.

332F(i) Crowne Plaza  Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Handicap Division One) & F.M. Berry, rider of Mulleady, trained by A.J. Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and may not have acted on today’s surface.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Mulleady was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

 C.P. Hoban, rider of Tight Times, trained by Thomas McGivern, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount was repeatedly denied a clear run in this race.

F. Lynch, rider of Fearchar, trained by James McLoughlin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost his action and was therefore eased.

332F(ii) Crowne Plaza  Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Handicap Division Two) & B.A. Curtis, rider of Indicative, trained by Anthony Mulholland, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was struck into in this race.

 C.T. Keane, rider of Baravaero, trained by Gerard Keane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount had to check in the straight.

 J.P. O’Brien, rider of Days Ahead, trained by Eoin Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount suffered interference in the straight.

Fairyhouse Meeting, 15th December 2012

333A Christmas Party Raceday At Fairyhouse Mares Maiden Hurdle & A.E. Lynch, rider of Honey Bach, trained by B.R. Hamilton, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled like a winner until the turn for home at which point she weakened very quickly.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Honey Bach at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.
 
 B.R. Hamilton, trainer of Honey Bach, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge has always made a respiratory noise and was not suited to today’s ground or trip.

J.F O’Shea, trainer of Queenwithtwohats, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge made a respiratory noise in running.

333B Follow Fairyhouse On Twitter Rated Hurdle & John W. Nicholson, trainer of Knockcroghery, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 17th December that his charge was found to have a lung infection following an endoscopic examination post race.

333C Fairyhouse Membership 2013 Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed D.G. Hogan, rider of Luke’s Benefit, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. 
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.G. Hogan was in breach of Regulation 10, in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
 Having taken his previous excellent record in this regard into account, the Stewards severely cautioned him for the future.

 I.J. McCarthy, rider of Carlowsantana, trained by S.T. Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran very free early on and failed to get home.

333E New Value Hospitality Packages At Fairyhouse Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards fined Miss Elizabeth Doyle, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Rich Revival in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

333F New Years Day 2013 At Fairyhouse Handicap Steeplechase & B.T. ‘O Connell, rider of Steady Ed, trained by John J Walsh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake at the third fence, never jumped or travelled thereafter and was therefore pulled up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Steady Ed at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have lost a shoe in running and was found to be lame post race.

 D.J. Casey, rider of The Shoe Doctor, trained by C.F. Swan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost confidence after jumping very slowly at the first fence, but that the horse stayed on one paced in closing stages.
 
Navan Meeting, 16th December 2012

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:- D.J. Condon replaced D.N. Russell on Rocky Wednesday, trained by Gordon Elliot (Race 5) (Stewards permission).

334A Tara Hurdle & B.J. Geraghty, rider of Sailors Warn, trained by E.J. O’Grady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not travel on today’s ground.

334B Navan Novice Hurdle & Gordon Elliott, trainer of Don Cossack (GER), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to be lame post race.

334C HRI On-Line Client Website Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Forever Gold, ridden by P.T. Enright, and trained by Edward Cawley.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
 In his evidence P.T. Enright stated that his instructions were to jump his mount off third or fourth, but not to make the running as the horse can be green. He was instructed to get the horse into a good jumping rhythm and see how he handled the ground. Regarding the race itself, P.T Enright stated that his mount travelled near the pace throughout, but that he made a mistake at the fifth last hurdle. He said he hit him once with the whip on the turn for home, but that the horse became tired in the straight. He said and he held him together hands and heels on the ground in the straight. He felt he had obtained his best possible placing.
 In his evidence Edward Cawley confirmed the instructions.  He stated that this is a buzzy horse. He said that he preferred the whip not to be used today, especially in the very testing ground.  He expressed himself satisfied with the ride.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Forever Gold was found to be post race normal. 
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation of the trainer. They were, however, of the opinion that P.T. Enright was in breach of Rule 212 (a) (i) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his horse was given a full opportunity to win or of obtaining the best possible place.
 Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for four race days (31st December, 1st, 3rd and 5th January 2013).

 C.D. Maxwell, rider of Smallman, trained by Patrick Rooney, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made mistakes and hung throughout this race.

334E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards granted permission for the fourth last fence to be omitted from this race in the interest of safety due to the low elevation of the sun.  

334F ‘Prancer And Dancer’ Handicap Steeplechase & B.T. Cooper, rider of El Fontan (FR), trained by D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled on today’s deep ground.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined El Fontan (FR), at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal (Samples were taken for analysis).

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined For A Finish (GB), at the request of Eoin Doyle, trainer, and reported the animal to be slightly lame post race.

 P.T. Enright, rider of Clashnabrook, trained by Eoghan O’Grady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

334G Irish Form Book ‘Future Champions’ I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the straight involving Champagne James, ridden by Ms. K. Walsh, placed second, Hilltop Tommy, ridden by Mr P. A. King, placed third, and Gilt Shadow, ridden by Mr S. Crawford, placed fourth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that Ms. K. Walsh was in breach of Rule 214 in that she had ridden carelessly.
 Having taken her record into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned her as to her future behaviour in this regard.
