The Turf Club has announced the appointment of Cliodhna Guy as Head of Legal & Compliance and Paul Murtagh as Head of Raceday Operations. Both are new positions.
Cliodhna Guy, who joins the Turf Club in mid-February, is an Irish qualified lawyer who has focused her career path in the sports industry. She qualified as a solicitor in Byrne Wallace, one of Ireland's top commercial firms and went on to gain significant experience, both nationally and internationally, as Legal Manager in the Football Association of Ireland and subsequently as Legal Director for the International Boxing Association. She has a Masters in Sports Law from De Montfort University in Leicester. She has strong international connections in the sports law industry and joins the Turf Club with an in-depth knowledge of integrity, disciplinary and governance matters.
Cliodhna Guy commented "I am delighted to be joining the management team of the Turf Club in this new role. I appreciate the long traditions of the sport and the horse racing industry in Ireland and look forward to an active involvement in the ongoing development of the sport."
Paul Murtagh joined the Turf Club in 2005 having previously worked as an Animal Nutritionist for Richard Keenan & Co. Ltd in both the UK and Ireland. He holds a Masters of Agricultural Science from UCD. Paul has a vast experience of the Turf Club’s work on the racecourse. He has worked as a racing official in many areas specialising in the role of stewards’ secretary. In recent years, he was actively involved in presenting disciplinary cases to the Appeals and Referrals Committees. He was also chosen to officiate as a racing official in 2013 at the China Equine Cultural Festival race meet held at Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China, and is currently pursuing a Diploma in Sports Law at the Law Society of Ireland. Paul takes up his new role on 1st April.
