S. Donohoe / Pet Day Referral
Roscommon – 5th July 2010
The Referrals Committee, Philip Caffrey (in the Chair), C.E. O’Sullivan and Mrs. T.K. Cooper met in the Turf Club, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on 9th July to consider a referral from Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club, in respect of the running of Pet Day trained by S. Donohoe, in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden at Roscommon on 5th July 2010. The Stewards were unable to proceed with an enquiry because the trainer was not available, nor did he have an authorized representative available on the day.
Evidence was heard from S Donohoe in relation to the non appointment of an Authorised Representative, he said that the intended person was injured on the gallops that morning and was unable to attend the meeting. He explained that neither he nor his wife were contactable that day for various reasons and that he was therefore unaware that the appointed person did not attend the meeting. Having considered the evidence, the Committee found S.Donohoe guilty of a breach of Rule 147(v) in relation to the non appointment of an Authorised Representative and imposed a fine of €130.
In relation to the running of Pet Day, the Committee considered evidence from S.Donohoe and also viewed a video of the race. Having considered all the facts the Committee were satisfied that the run was an unacceptable performance as outlined in Rule 212(b) and imposed a suspension on the horse for a period of 60 days.
The case was presented by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
