023A Anna Gannon 80th Birthday Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from M.F. Morris, trainer of the winner Born In Fire (FR), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
Mr Morris reported that his charge was wearing a drop nose band for the first time today and that perhaps this change in equipment had brought about the apparent improvement in form. He also added that his charge is a former point to point winner and has always possessed ability.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

He added that it was the horse’s first run in eighteen months and on ground softer than ideal. The trainer expressed his disappointment with the horse’s performance in that he ran too freely and did not see out the race, while he also expressed his satisfaction with the ride.
In his evidence R. Walsh confirmed the instructions and added that the horse ran very freely and never settled. He stated that the horse weakened quickly when coming off the bridle and had nothing left in the straight.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Royal Reveille was found to be post race normal.

023E Glenfarclas P.P. Hogan Memorial Cross Country Steeplechase & The Stewards received a request from Mr R. Kavanagh, rider, to carry six pounds overweight on Dom Fontenail (FR), trained by Martin Brassil.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he was unaware of the weight to be carried until declaration time, and that this race being a cross county contest, he assumed the weights would have been higher. He added that despite his best efforts he was unable to shed sufficient weight and that he would be able to ride at no lighter than six pounds overweight.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards refused the request and as a result Dom Fontenail (FR) was withdrawn from this race by Order of the Stewards.
