Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.

He said that the horse ran very free throughout and he dropped him out to last place in an attempt to settle him. He said that the horse made up his ground gradually leaving the back straight, past beaten horses. He concluded by saying that the horse emptied after the final hurdle and with a more positive ride would have stopped sooner. He was satisfied that the horse had achieved his best possible placing.
In his evidence the trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride. He did, however, initially feel that the ground should have been made up earlier. He added that the horse is very ground dependant and needs good going. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Line View was found to be post race normal.

In his evidence J.R. Barry stated that his instructions were to ride the horse handily in fifth or sixth place and to go the shortest way around. He said that the horse jumped and travelled well throughout but started to make a respiratory noise leaving the back straight, which became progressively worse in the straight. He concluded by stating that he nudged the horse out hands and heals after the final obstacle.
In his evidence Patrick Doodey confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride. He added that the horse did make a respiratory noise in his last race at Fairyhouse and may have a wind problem. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer which stated that Minella For Value was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that both the trainer and rider were in breach of Rule 212 as the horse was not let run on its merits and the rider failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to attain his best possible placing.

He added that the horse made a bad mistake in the early stages of that Navan race and was subsequently hampered by fallers and lost his confidence thereafter.
