G.F. Carroll Appeal – Curragh, 12th August 2012

The Appeals Body (Division Two), Judge Tony Hunt (in the Chair), Michael Doyle and Peter N. Reynolds met at the Turf Club, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on 20th August 2012 to consider an appeal from G.F. Carroll, rider, against the severity of the ban imposed by the Stewards at the Curragh on 12th August 2012 when following the running of the Foleys Antiques European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden he was suspended for one race day for careless riding.

Evidence was heard from G.F. Carroll who accepted that he had edged left and caused interference. He said he had no option as he was tracking “Cloak” who was dropping back.  He also suggested that Wayne Lordan’s mount “Wishing” contributed to the incident by leaning in.  This was not something he had indicated to the Stewards at the original enquiry.  Film of the race was also reviewed.

Having considered the evidence the Appeals Body dismissed the appeal.  They accepted that W.M. Lordan did not contribute in any way to what occurred.  In view of G.F. Carroll’s recent record, the Appeals Body ordered that the original suspension of one race day should remain.  They also ordered that the rider forfeit his deposit.
