J.J. Lambe - “Breezearshan” - Identity Query
The Referrals Committee, Judge Tony Hunt (in the Chair), Sean Barry and John G. Moloney, met in Turf Club, The Curragh, on Tuesday 3rd April, 2012, to consider a referral from Josh Byrne, Registrar of the I.N.H.S. Committee, concerning the identification of “Breezearshan” handled by J.J. Lambe, which was due to run at Tynan & Armagh Point to Point on 18th February, 2012, in the Confined Hunt Winners Race, but was withdrawn by order of the Stewards as the Veterinary Surgeon on duty, Terry Smith, was unable to positively identify the animal from the passport documentation presented.
Evidence was heard from J.J. Lambe, Handler, who explained the background to the mistaken identity. The Committee also considered DNA reports and markings certificates from Weatherbys Ireland Laboratories for “Breezearshan” and “Sir Breezelan”.
The Committee, having considered the evidence, noted that the animal produced to run as “Breezearshan” B.g. (2005) by Sayarshan (FR) - Croeso Adref (GB), at Tynan & Armagh Point to Point on 18th February, 2012, was in fact “Sir Breezelan” B.g. (2005) by Milan (GB) - Country Melody. They were satisfied that Mr. Lambe had confused the identity of both animals in his care.
The Committee were also satisfied that Mr. Lambe was guilty of an error of judgement for failing to produce the correct animal to run at the Tynan & Armagh Point to Point on 18th February, 2012 and they therefore fined him €250.
The case was presented to the Committee by Josh Byrne, Registrar, I.N.H.S. Committee.
