Mr. A. J. Martin - “Schindlers Son” Appeal

The Appeals Body, Mr. Ronan Keane (in the Chair), Mr. P.J.A. O’Connor and Mr. Michael J. Doyle, met at the Stand House Hotel, The Curragh, Co. Kildare, on Wednesday, 7th June, 2006, to consider appeals lodged by trainer Mr. A.J. Martin and owner Mr. P.J. McGee against the decision of the Acting Stewards at Limerick on 14th May, 2006, when, following the running of the Martinstown Maiden Hurdle, Mr. Martin was fined €2,000, “Schindlers Son” was suspended for sixty days and Mr. S.J. Craig, rider, was suspended for twenty one days for a breach of Rule 212.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Martin, trainer, Mr. Craig, jockey, Ms. Joan Taylor, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, and Mr. P.L. Malone, Stewards Secretary, while a film of the race was also viewed. Having considered the evidence the Committee allowed the appeals.
The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Michael O’Donoghue, Stewards Secretary. Mr. Martin was represented by Mr. Eugene Gleeson, S.C., instructed by Ms. Irene Carey of Burns, Kelly, Corrigan Solicitors, Harolds Cross Road, Dublin 6.
