W.J. Burke Appeal

The Appeals Body Division 2, with Mr. J.R. Craigie in the Chair, Mr. P.N. Reynolds and Mrs. T.K. Cooper met in the Stewards room in the Curragh Racecourse on Tuesday 26th June 2007 to consider an appeal lodged by Mr. W.J. Burke, person in charge of Taibhse an Oir on behalf of the owner, against the decision of the Acting Stewards at Carbery (F) Clonakilty Point to Point meeting on Saturday 26th May 2007, when following the running of the Maiden Race for 6 year old geldings the Stewards heard an objection from Mr C.J. Sweeney rider of Ask Oscar placed second against Taibhse an Oir ridden by Mr. J.J. Doyle being declared a winner on grounds of interference. The Stewards allowed the objection and reversed the placing of the first two horses.
The Committee heard evidence from Mr. R.O. Harding rider of Humbel Cone placed third, Mr. C.J. Sweeney rider of Ask Oscar, Mr. W.J. Burke, appellant and Mr. Liam Walsh Stewards Secretary on duty. A DVD of the race was also viewed.
Having considered the evidence the Committee allowed the Appeal. The result now reads
First - “Taibhse an Oir”
Second - “Ask Oscar”
Third - “Humbel Cone”
Fourth - “Cumheretilitellyou”
