Peter McCreery (Trainer) Referral - Stable Inspection 14th June 2021

The Referrals Committee, Mr. Peter N. Reynolds (in the chair), Mr. Finbar Cahill and Mr. Laurence McFerran convened at the Offices of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board on Tuesday, 8th March, to consider whether Peter McCreery (Trainer) was in breach of any rules as a result of a stable inspection carried out at his Training Establishment on 14th June 2021 by Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board officials.

On the day, the inspection team observed that a number of passports were not available for inspection for horses which were present at the time of the inspection as required under Regulation 8. Furthermore, two horses, namely Lady Ranger and an unnamed mare by Three Valleys were found to be in need of attention from a farrier.

At the Referral Hearing, the committee considered evidence from Mr. McCreery.

In his evidence, Mr. McCreery accepted that a number of passports were not present at the time and apologised for the oversight but stated that the majority of horses he had at the time were for pre-training and that the passports remained with the Trainer. Mr. McCreery also explained that following the inspection the farrier had seen to both horses which needed to have their hooves trimmed and shod.

Having considered the evidence, the panel were satisfied that Mr. McCreery was in breach of Rule 148(i) in respect of two horses that needed farrier attention and Regulation 8 in respect of 10 horses whose passports were not present on the day. Having considered his record in this regard the panel fined him €1,800.

The case was presented by Mr. Michael Daly, IHRB Regulatory Legal Advisor
