G.M. Ryan (Rider) Appeal – Dundalk 15 March 2024

The Appeals Body, Mr N.B. Wachman (Chairman), Mr Anthony Byrne and Mr M.C. Hickey convened at the Offices of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board on Tuesday, 26 March 2024 to consider the appeal of Gavin Ryan (Rider) following the decision of the Raceday Stewards at Dundalk on Friday, 15 March 2023.

Following the running of the 361 Days To The Supreme BetVictor Handicap, the Raceday Stewards found Mr Ryan, rider of Arnhem, in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard they suspended him for one raceday.

The grounds of appeal lodged by Mr Ryan was that the Stewards on the day erred in their decision.

At the Appeal Hearing, evidence was heard from Mr Ryan and the Appeals Body also watched a recording of the race.

In his evidence, Mr Ryan explained that he maintined his racing line and if there was any interference, it wasn’t caued by him as in his opinion he was clear of  the horses behind him.

Having considered the evidence, the Appeals Body allowed the appeal.

The appeal was presented by Mr Ryan. The IHRB was represented by Ms Clíodhna Guy, Head of Licensing, Legal and Compliance and Mr Andrew Ring, IHRB Stipendiary Steward.
