C.J. MacRedmond (Rider) Referral – Dundalk 15th August 2022

The Referrals Committee, Mr. Thomas Breen (in the chair), Mr. Peter N. Reynolds and Mr. C.P Magnier convened at Bellewstown Racecourse on Wednesday 24th August 2022 to consider the referral of Cian MacRedmond, rider of Carnival Girl following the Bar One Racing Bet On Mobile Apprentice Maiden at Dundalk on 15th August 2022.

On the day, the Stewards wished to interview with Mr. MacRedmond concerning his use of whip in this race. However, as Mr. MacRedmond had already departed the racecourse, the Stewards referred the matter to a Senior Racing Official.

At the Referral Hearing, evidence was heard from Mr. MacRedmond and the panel also watched a recording of the race.

In his evidence, Mr. MacRedmond apologised for being unable to attend the initial enquiry on the day and explained that Carnival Girl was his only ride at Dundalk and he was then immediately making his way to Roscommon for two rides at that fixture. He accepted that he had left within 10 minutes of the ‘Winner All Right’ being called and this was an oversight on his behalf as he was rushing to get to Roscommon. In relation to his use of the whip in the race in question, Mr. MacRedmond stated that his mount was not straightforward in the race itself but accepted that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.

Having considered the evidence, the panel were satisfied that Mr. MacRedmond was in breach of Rule 229(v) in that he had failed to remain at the Racecourse for 10 minutes after the ‘Winner All Right’ announcement was made. Having considered his record in this regard they cautioned him in respect of that breach. Furthermore, the panel also found Mr. MacRedmond in breach of Regulation 10.3(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having considered his record in this regard, they cautioned him on this occasion.

The case was presented by Mr. Paul Moloney, IHRB Stipendiary Steward.
