Provisional summary of Point to Point races for the Spring 2021 Season

The Stewards of the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee (INHSC) have today announced the full provisional summary of Point to Point races for the Spring 2021 Season. The full programme of races can be viewed on the Point to Point section of the IHRB website www.ihrb.ie/p2p/

The Spring Season contains 78 fixtures and will commence with the United Hunt (F) Lisgoold meeting at Ballindenisk on 3rd January and conclude at the South Union (F) Kinsale two day meeting on 29th and 30th May.

We look forward to the Scarteen (F) Hunt unveiling their new track in Comea, Kilfeacle, Co. Tipperary on 31st January.

There is a total of 78 four-year old maiden races programmed with six of these being Auction Maidens confined to horses sold at a recognised National Hunt Store Sale in Ireland or Great Britain in 2020 for €25,000 or less. These races have been scheduled at North Tipperary (F) on 20th February, Galway Blazers (F) on 28th March, Co. Limerick (F) Athlacca on 11th April, Bree (F) on 25th April, Muskerry (F) on 2nd May and Ormond (F) on 22nd May.

The INHSC will continue with its support to promote and retain older horses competing in Point to Points. The winning owner of the 6yo & Upwards Maiden at United Hunt (F) Carrigtwohill on 31st January, the 6yo & Upwards Maiden at Bray (H) on 28th February, the 6yo & Upwards Geldings Maiden at Westmeath (F) on 4th April and the 6yo & Upwards Mares Maiden at East Antrim (H) on 5th April will receive a bonus of €1000. The INHSC sponsorship will culminate with a €5000 race which is scheduled to take place at the Bree (F) fixture on 25th April.

Commenting on the Spring 2021 Provisional Summary of Point to Point races, Paul Murtagh, INHSC Registrar said: “The Stewards of the INHSC hope this Provisional Summary presents a balanced programme containing opportunities for all categories of horses to run in Point to Points. They are pleased to continue the support of older horses competing by sponsoring a winning bonus of €1000 in four 6yo & Upwards Maidens during the season and the €5000 race for older horses at Bree (F) and hope all these races will be well supported by Owners and Handlers. The Stewards of the INHSC will also continue to financially support Hunt Committees which schedule races for Novice Riders to ensure there is a dedicated opportunity for these riders each weekend. The Stewards look forward to Points to Points hopefully returning to normal at some stage in 2021 and wish everyone a safe and successful Spring season.”
