Thurles Meeting, 17th January 2013

011A www.thurlesraces.ie Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from a representative for F. Flood, trainer of the winner Kilmainham, regarding the apparent improvement in form of this horse compared to his recent form.
The representative reported that the horse disappointed at Leopardstown last time on his first run in a handicap when he failed to see out the trip after a strong pace. He added that today’s drop in class helped the horse return to form.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

Patrick Mangan, rider of Tipp On Air, trained by James Joseph Mangan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in the back straight, but stayed  on well in the straight and may have benefited from a step up in trip.

011C Leugh Handicap Hurdle & R.Walsh, rider of Away We Go, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Away We Go was found to be post race normal.

Dundalk Meeting, 18th January 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:
L.P Dempsey rode Strawberry Flavour (GER) (reserve), trained by A. Oliver (Race 8).
The Stewards were informed by J.R. Banahan, Turf Club Starter, shortly before the first race, that there may be a problem with the stall handlers being in a position to work at tonight’s meeting, as they believed they were not fully covered by Insurance.
Evidence was heard from Pat Keating, representative of the Stall Handlers.
In his evidence Mr Keating explained that he and a colleague John Lane had been in contact with Horse Racing Ireland during the day attempting to get a copy of the insurance policy showing that they were fully covered. According to Mr Keating, Horse Racing Ireland was unable to provide this, but a representative of Horse Racing Ireland gave a verbal assurance that they were prepared to cover any liability that may arise at the Dundalk meeting. Mr Keating explained that this was unacceptable to the Stall Handlers, and that they were not prepared to work unless they received written assurances from Horse Racing Ireland regarding their level of insurance.
The Stewards ordered that the first race be delayed in an attempt to resolve this issue to their satisfaction and they then contacted Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Horse Racing Ireland, and he provided written confirmation to the Stewards and to the Stall Handlers that they had full insurance cover.
On receipt of this written assurance,  Pat Keating informed the Stewards that the Stall Handlers were in a position to work at this meeting as planned and the Stewards sanctioned the meeting to go ahead.

012B Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Maiden & S. Foley, rider of Ebadani, trained by M. Halford, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room in  the back straight and was hesitant thereafter.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Ebadani at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically normal post race.

F. Lynch, rider of Eusepio, trained by David Marnane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became unbalanced in this race as a result of the strong gusting winds.

012C Dundalk Stadium – Light Up Your Night Handicap & J.F. Egan, rider of Nureyev’s Boy, trained by James Leavy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly right in this race.

012D Floodlit Friday Nights At Dundalk Handicap & The Stewards received a report from P.L. Malone, Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that F. Lynch, rider of Cool Athlete, placed fifth, weighed in three pounds heavier than he weighed out for this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he was doing light in this race and had to sweat on a number of occasions during the day to try to do the weight. He explained that prior to the previous race he felt he was beginning to cramp up due to dehydration, and so after weighing out for this race, he took some fluids to rehydrate. He apologised to the Stewards for doing so prior to this race, but felt he needed to for his own safety and well being.
Having taken his record into account and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that  F. Lynch was in breach of Rule 231 in that he weighed in three pounds overweight. The Stewards therefore fined him €100 and cautioned him regarding his future responsibilities in this regard.

J.P. O’Brien, rider of Beat The Ballot, trained by Tracey Collins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost his action and was therefore eased.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Beat The Ballot at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have a cut on the inside area of the left fore heel, but that the animal was otherwise found to be clinically normal post race.

012E(i) Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Maiden (Division One) & The Stewards enquired into an incident on the turn for home involving the winner Edeymi, ridden by R.P. Cleary, Raise The Beat (GB), ridden by W.J. Lee, placed fourth, Baby Jake, ridden by F. Lynch, and Somewhere, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, both unplaced, after it appeared that Baby Jake suffered interference and had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action.

E.J. McNamara, rider of I Hear A Symphony, trained by J.J. Lambe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount found nothing off the bridle turning for home.
