100C Strandhill Caravan Park H'cap H'dle

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk Of The Scales, that The Broom Squire, trained by P.J. Rothwell was mistakenly withdrawn when it was the trainers intention to withdraw Jimmyjames(GB) from the same race. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards reinstated The Broom Squire using their powers under the provisions of Rule 194(ix) as they were satisfied that the withdrawal was due to a genuine mistake. They allowed the withdrawal of Jimmyjames(GB) owing to a change in going and took no further action.

The Stewards interviewed R.C. Colgan, rider of General Gold, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found R.C. Colgan to be in breach of Regulation 10.3 (g) in that he used his whip with his arm above shoulder height. Having considered his record in this regard, the Stewards suspended R.C. Colgan for 2 racedays.

The Stewards requested a report from W.P. Mullins, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Causey Arch, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Ben Delmer, authorised representative of the trainer, reported that Causey Arch made a bad mistake at the first hurdle last time out which seemed to effect his confidence. He felt the smaller field today helped his charge. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
