The Raceday Stewards received a request from Seamus G. O'Donnell, trainer of The Fog Horn, to substitute the nominated rider S.D. Bowen(7), with W.M. Lordan as the nominated rider had failed to present himself to weigh out in accordance with the provisions of Rule 196(i)(not less than quarter of an hour before the time fixed for the race). The trainer stated that he was made aware this morning that his charge, who was a reserve, would get in and he immediately contacted Mr. Rory Tierney, Riders'Agent and secured the services of S.D. Bowen to ride his charge. He stated that the nominated rider failed to present himself to weigh out and was not answering his phone despite efforts to contact him. He further stated that the only other claiming rider available to ride was unable to draw the correct weight and the only other rider available that could ride at the designated weight was W.M. Lordan. Having considered the matter the Raceday Stewards allowed the substitution on this occasion under the provisions of Regulation 3. Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that S.D. Bowen was in breach of Rule 196(v) and issued a fine of €200 on this occasion in his absence.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving Nyla Rua, ridden by C.T. Keane, placed fourth, and Von Krolock, ridden by O. McSweeney, placed fifth, where it appeared that Von Krolock made contact with Nyla Rua. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, C.T. Keane stated that both Nyla Rua and Von Krolock had raced upsides from the turn in and felt that he had kept straight. O. McSweeney stated that his mount was wearing blinkers had leaned both left and right in the straight. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.

The Raceday Stewards received a report from Mr. D. Maher, Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that O. McSweeney, rider of Von Krolock, weighed in at 1.1 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that this was the case. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that O. McSweeney was in breach of Rule 231 and having considered his record they cautioned him on this occasion.

162E Ladies Day July 29th Apprentice H'cap

The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Mrs John Harrington, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Sea Spray (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that her charge appeared to benefit from the first time application of cheek pieces and was given a positive ride, which she felt had helped to bring about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report.

J. Kearney, rider of Semantics (USA), trained by G.M.Lyons, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount missed the break.
