K.C. Sexton, rider of Soviet Pimpernel trained by Peter Fahey, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount jumped slowly throughout this race.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Soviet Pimpernel, ridden by K.C. Sexton, and trained by Peter Fahey. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. K.C. Sexton, stated that his instructions were to take his time early on, get his mount settled and jumping and to do the best he could. He said that his mount is a very slow and deliberate jumper which cost him ground throughout, in what he felt was a very fast race. He concluded by stating that his mount was having its first run in a handicap and was the most inexperienced in the field. Peter Fahey, confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He stated that his charge has plenty of ability, but is not a natural jumper which cost him ground today and on other occasions in the past. He concluded by stating that he hoped the animals jumping would improve with experience and become more competitive in future. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer, who stated that Soviet Pimpernel was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. Chairman of the Stewards Mr. Neill McGrath absented himself from this enquiry and was replaced by Ms. Mary O'Connor.

C.A.McBratney, trainer of Benefit North, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have blood at the nostrils post race. This was subsequently confirmed by the I.H.R.B. Veterinary Officer.
